I think you're actually fine.

It is the doctor's responsibility to verify that you have the age appropriate vaccines.

So I think that's what it's saying.

In either case, I have read multiple times across threads that the vaccinations are needed at the AOS stage. Getting them done now just gets them out of the way. But since Heb B isn't required (I can't see why it would be different between countries), I wouldn't worry over it.

Also, it is in most cases A LOT cheaper to get them before enterning into the states

Hey guys I hear everyone talking about medicals and I guess I can ask a question. I am going to see my fiance in Honduras next month, I was wondering if we could go ahead and get his medical done while I am there and get his vaccinations done, IDK I read somewhere that the medical is good for one year...in that case is it safe for us to take it or do you think it is better if I call the US Embassy in Honduras and ask them? Thanks for your help!

Guatemala being so close to Honduras and having a lot of the same national context I can share some of what they say and ask for at the Guatemala embassy. You can NOT do the medical unless you have the Embassy's Letter for the Interview. But, please do call the US Embassy in Honduras, It's the best way to go before you spend $100.00 for nothing. (that's the cost here)

Best of luck!

Hey guys!

Just a short note about the vaccinations - I based my vaccination requirements on this list:

http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1331.html

I assume that list should be correct and up-to-date, what do you think? Like Diana, thanks to my Mom I had a little leaflet with info on all the shots Ive had ever since I was born, and I took that with me to the nurse. I only had the Hep B to get as a new one but while I was at it I got some of the others reinforced (and also because my employer agreed to pay for some of the vaccination costs - lucky me, they prolly wouldn't have done that had they known they're for me to quit my job and move out of the country - oops!).

Anyway, the nurse told me that they don't vaccinate adults against Rotavirus, do you know if this is really true? I've never even heard of Rotavirus before, adn according to her it is something that only newborns can get. The nurse also transferred all the records of my vaccinations on an International Certificate of Vaccination by World Health Organization (a little yellow leaflet), but that might not be official enough once filing for AOS. I remember reading somewhere that when you go to your physical, you should ask your doctor for (hold on, I have it written down somewhere) - the Department of State's vaccination worksheet (or an official copy) DS-3025, and that is in fact what you need to have for AOS. But yeah, like TwoCats said, the shots should not be necessary until AOS, but I guess different countries have different requirements, also as what comes to what vaccinations you in fact need. I dont even know if I need all the ones on the list mentioned above, but as I always worry and rush into things too quickly, I just had them done before doing a lot of research :-( With all these vaccines I consider myself a superwoman now :P

-Eve

EVERYONE PLEAE NOTE.... the link that was supplied above shows all shots required, WIHTOUT taking into consideration age and gender. Please follow the following link for accurate information. This is what was provided to me by the embassy, and every single panel physician across the globe is required to follow these same requirements.

http://www.***removed***/immigrant-visa/technical-instructions-panel-physicians-vaccination-requirements.pdf

These shots greatly depend on your age and gender.

Yes, it is true that rotovirus is only for babys!

you cannot get medical examinations done in advance, as these can only be done by a panel physician.

However, you can get some of the shots in advance. go to this link http://www.***removed***/immigrant-visa/technical-instructions-panel-physicians-vaccination-requirements.pdf and figure out what you need. these need to be documented on official health records in order to be honored.

ALSO NOTE that any shots that are given less than 6 weeks in advance of your official medical examination by a panel physician WILL NOT be honored!

Not necessarily. Once you are married spouse and children can be added to health insurance. Most US heath insurance cover preventative visits and immunizations. I know mine does.

Yes Diana, I know that this is true. I spoke directly with the embassy on this one. Also, there is this really great sight that you can go to, because the shot requirements depends a lot on your gender and age. The following link will take you to a .pdf file that is the most up-to-date instructions for panel physicians (the doctors that will do your medical exam) on immigration shot requirements.

You will notice a chart on about page 16 of this document with the shots with age and gender requirements. You will also notice that even for people who can not recove rtheir medical records, all listed shots may not be required because of their age. For example, people over the age of 18 do not need their polio or Hep B shot.

We had a lot of questions because my fiance's shot records got burned in a house fire, and his health centre lost the original document.

So, here is the link: http://www.***removed***/immigrant-visa/technical-instructions-panel-physicians-vaccination-requirements.pdf

If you read AOS documentation you will find that AOS medicals CANNOT be covered by insurance of ANY kind.

I have no idea why they do this, but they do!!

For K1, since there has been recent medical within a year, there is no need to my knowledge of further medical as the beneficiary goes though all of this within 90 days before by board certified doctor. Just proof of immunizations. The immunizations can be done through family doctor and proof given by them for AOS paperwork.

If I am incorrect in this, please point me to the documentation that says this is not the accurate.

I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. Only if your DS-3025 is marked "incomplete" is a I-693 required to be completed. If it is marked as such (incomplete) you are required to complete certain portions of the I-693 and have a Civil Surgeon certify the form (and seal it in an evelope). Specifically, you will complete Part 1 (Information about you) of the I-693 and provide both the form and your DS-3025 (if you have it, proving your vaccination history) and any proof of required vaccinations that were completed prior to entering the US. If you do not have a copy of your DS-3025 you will need to provide sufficient evidence of your vaccination history to the Civil Surgeon (talk to the civil surgeon's office to discuss what vaccination records they accept as proof). If you do not have proof of your vaccination history the Civil Surgeon may insist on re-administering all the required vaccinations prior to completing the I-693. Once the Civil Surgeon has has verified that all required vaccinations have been performed, they will complete form I-693 Part 2 (the vaccination section) and Part 5 (the Civil Surgeon's Certification). They will then seal the form in an envelope and return it to you.

I take from this you can provide them with proof of vacinations either before from country of origin or after by local family doctor.

Hey guys.

Sorry i havnt posted for so long, but ive been trying to keep away from VJ and just forget about all the k1 stuff as it was driving me insane.

Anyway, Ashley just visited england for 2 weeks and we had such an amazing time. We went to amsterdam for 3 days (and yes she got a bit of a cold shoulder from both the dutch and british borders - even when leaving holland! haha!!)

But anyway. Looks like VSC is running at 6 months or prob even 7 months by the time we get there so im hoping for a July approval still :)

I visit Ashley in tx in 5 weeks for 2 weeks, so coutning down the days until that!!

I have one question before i part, me and ash arnt formally engaged yet, i plan to ask in the coming months, but my question is......if i planned to ask in the usa, do u think it would be wise going through security with the ring? Im thinking it would raise unecessary alarm bells with security, becase obv i would have it in my hand luggage. However, if found, i would surely br able to state that i am applying for i129f and a k1 if approved, and tehrefor dont plan to overstay etc.....

What are your thoughts??

In London, you are advised to take a record from your doctor of all your previous vaccinations (just ask and theyll print ot for you). This obv shows what you have add, but i am led to believe that you dont have to have had all vaccinations to pass a k1 medical. But you def need them when you AOS. so you are advised to get them before you move.

Hi Ben,

I think it depends how much it costs and the rules for bringing goods/gifts into the USA. Always have the receipt with you. Matt bought mine in the US and it exceeded the gift amount allowed into Canada so he was honest and paid duty when bringing it across. We can claim it back after I move. Rules may be different in each country. I always travel to the US with the receipt and customs receipt in case I am asked any questions. I had a friend that moved to the US and she couldn't prove where her ring was purchased and border patrol made her pay a 40% tax on the appraised value. I think the penalty might be 80 % now. Anyway, I didn't know I'd have to be so careful about the ring and most of the time people probaby get away with doing nothing. We just wanted to go by the book just in case someone questions it. Sorry to be long winded...hope this helps a little.

I went through customs in Russia with it, and had no issues. In theory the ring will not remain in that country anyways and personal effects such as jewelry are usually exempt. You could always wear it yourself as well, as I said personal jewelry is usually exempt in most cases. I too was nervous about this, but no issues. I would take the receipts with you in case you do need to declare it. Worst case, you pay a small amount. Small price to pay to make your fiancée happy, right??
