we did our civil marriage on July 15th

Funny -- we did our civil ceremony the same day as you!

Just a note to everyone about getting a head start on the AOS paperwork: Do it. I had looked it all over before I left Canada to make sure I brought everything I needed with me, but I didn't start filling out any of the paperwork until after we had our civil ceremony.

If I were doing this again, I would start filling out those PDFs right away. It ended up taking us 10 days after we got married to get the paperwork sent out. That may end up being a bummer if it takes the current average of 4 months to process, as we were hoping to visit my family in November, and may not be able to till December.

July 3, 2011 - POE at Pacific Central Station

July 25, 2011 - AOS mailed

August 30, 2011 - RFE (ARRRRGH)

September 26, 2011 - Biometrics appt

Sept 30 - Response to RFE sent in.

November 22, 2011 - Interview @ San Bernardino. Approved! Went down the street and got a passport stamp too, so I can travel for xmas.

NO MORE DEALING WITH IMMIGRATION FOR TWO WHOLE YEARS! AMAZING!

Congrats!

I agree with Raldetta and getting the paperwork started early especially if you're looking to come back for the holiday season. The AOS paperwork, just like the 129F, is pretty substancial.

Congratuations and happy days to all my fellow January filers that have gotten through their interviews and/or are with their loved ones!!!

My interview is scheduled for September 23 - exactly 11 months from the day I met Mark. I'll be enjoying my time in Virginia until Sept. 15th and then it's rush back home to get my police records check, medical on Sept. 21st and arrange for my stuff to be shipped to my new home in Portsmouth. Will probably do POE via Amtrak in Vancouver to Seattle to visit with some friends before settling in the East.

Still no plans on the wedding until Mark finds out where he will be working but fingers are crossed for a wedding in Hawaii where we met, maybe even the exact day a year from when we met!

I know this probably sounds silly, but when applying for a marriage license they ask for the social security numbers of bride and groom. My fiancee is just about to arrive from Thailand. She doesn't have a social security number. So how does that work? Thx
