Hi everyone!

After you've arrived to the US and gotten your green card, do you have to wait for the Social Security card to come in the mail or do you have to apply for it?

Depends most people check off yes on the ds230 for ssn but sometimes it doesn;t arrive so if it has been 10 days or more, you can go in to apply.

I checked off the SS# request on my DS230, but a month and a half after my arrival, I still hadn't received a card. I went to the local Social Security office, and they had no record of me ever applying for a number. I was issued one, and had the card within a week.

10 days or 10 business days? :)

I waited three full weeks so I would suggest waiting 10 business days but I have read posts of others that were successful even earlier. Good luck.
