Sandinistas question suffers from several issues.

NOONE said the few Muslims risking life and limb to condemn and defend this woman were any less Muslim than the majority Pakistani Muslims who support both the ludicrous law and its application in this instance.

So her question starts off claiming a false supposition.

Typical.

If anything the only false assumption made here is that you people actually bothered to read the story beyond the limit of your own preconceptions

what is the meaning then, of posts like this?

religion of 'peace' ;)

it entirely dismisses the muslim-ness of genuine heroes and inspiring people in this otherwise awful story.

read the last thread about asia bibi-16 pages of insults about how backwards and evil and stupid islam is, but i was the only person to point out that there are muslims risking their lives, careers and reputations in order to help her. it certainly didn't lead to any backtracking on opinions about the wretchedness of muslims. when muslims do something bad, it's all about their muslim-ness. when they do good no one even notices it, and it does not inspire re-thinking of errant, bigoted opinions. what else is it then that detracts from the good that the muslims helping this woman are doing, if not their muslim-ness? it certainly can't be due to their actions. their actions are nothing short of heroic. they face a very real threat of being killed by some pos there. so why haven't they been given the credit they are due on this forum, if not for their muslim-ness.

Easy, more Muslims are seen blowing up buildings than actually helping others like this.

What a stupid thing to say.

Possibly not such a stupid thing to say.

As we all know, the "news" usually focuses on bad news. Trying to be impartial in this, perhaps there are more acts by Muslims like those you and Sofiyya both have described. Sofiyya also found where Muslim leaders had voiced there opposition to the church bombings in Egypt. However, these apparantly aren't "news worthy" so the average person doesn't hear about them. If there are more examples of these types of acts, then somehow Muslim leaders need to make it known to the average person. Hire a publicist or something. I've never read the Saudi Gazette and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that. Right now, in the main stream news, it really is more common to see Muslims blowing up buildings than helping others. The question is: Is that reality or is that just what is presented by the news?

Actually, there is plenty of evidence to indicate that our bigots believe that the only true Muslims are the violent ones. They definitely prefer them and their philosophy to Muslims who aren't violent. Without the violent ones, what else would they have to post about?

Nothing.

With all due respect, there are non-Muslims here who don't depend on biased articles to inform them. They have the intelligence to discern for themselves that one-fifth of the world's population can't all be evil and that the second largest religion on the planet must have some redeeming value. They come to these threads and challenge the bigots on a regular basis, so it's not just Muslims who know where to find balanced information about Islam and Muslims. There are many average people who look beyond the medias' irresponsible "if it bleeds, it leads" profit making policy each day.

But, hey, you're probably the first one to ask, so I'll give you props for that

Lest we forget: Who helped create this? The U.S. Gov't gave these nuts a huge boost in the 1980's:

Pakistan's founding father, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, helped establish the country in 1947 as a moderate Islamic state welcoming all minority groups and religions. But that foundation has slowly been eroded over the years, especially in the 1980s during the military rule of Gen. Mohammad Zia ul-Haq, who imposed a more conservative brand of Islam on the country.

The U.S. participated in this process by providing Zia's government with billions of dollars that it funneled to the mujahideen fighting the Soviets in neighboring Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia (<== U.S.'s friend as well)

also provided billions and established scores of conservative Islamic schools that have played a major role in empowering the religious right in Pakistan.
