AFTER I RETURNED TO THE STATES ON JULY 3RD I WENT TO CHANGE MY DRIVERS LICENSE. I SHOWED THE LADY MY ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE WITH THE TRANSLATION. SHE TOLD ME THAT THEY DO NOT ACCEPT FOREIGN MARRIAGE LICENSE/CERTIFICATES. I ASKED HER WHAT DO I DO THEN IN ORDER TO CHANGE MY LAST NAME. SHE INFORMED ME TO GET MY SOCIAL SECURITY CARD AND THEN BRING IT TO HER AND SHE CAN GIVE ME ONE THEN. I ASKED HER WHAT THE OTHER OPTION WAS AND SHE TOLD ME GO TO THE COURTHOUSE AND DO A LEGAL NAME CHANGE. ANYWAYS, I WENT TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE AND SHOWED THEM MY MARRIAGE LICENSE. AFTER A BIT OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO IT SEEMS SHE TOLD ME SHE HAS TO SEND A COPY OF IT TO THE DISTRIC OFFICE TO HAVE THEM APPROVE IT. SO I AM HOPING THEY WILL APPROVE IT. IF NOT, THEN I MIGHT AS WAIT UNTIL HE GETS HERE AND GET REMARRIED. DOING A LEGAL NAME CHANGE AT THE COURTHOUSE WOULD MEAN ORDERING FORMS ONLINE SINCE THE COURTHOUSE DOES NOT TOO MUCH BULL!!

I AM MARRIED DANG IT.

HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS??

what do you mean by *REMARRIED* ? If your marriage is recognized legally, then there should be some way around this. Many people have been married internationally, and should not pose a problem. Could just be your DMX being idiotic. Hopefully someone will come along who has experience with this.

I would think obtaining the ss card with your new name on it will help with completing the license change.

yes I guess the DMV is idiotic about this. I need to call another one and see what they tell me. I am anxious to have my name changed legally. I used my married name on all the forms sent in to uscis. The lady at the ss office even had me to sign my married name to the application for a new card. I sure hope the social security office accepts my foreign marriage license and sends me my new card with my married name.
