We have been waiting more than 5 months so should be a few weeks away from the NOA2. We have a few logistical reasons to want to get it done ASAP (get her moved here before I get busy at work, get her son in school before too much of the year gets away,...). We have a few questions for anyone who has recently scheduled an interview in Kiev.

How long did it take to schedule the interview? How far out was the first available date they offered? When you called to schedule the interview were you asked for your NOA2 approval date, receipt number, etc or just name of beneficiary? The reason I ask is that I wonder if it is possible to schedule the interview in advance and in anticipation of NOA2 approval to speed the process up a little. In the Kiev instructions on the website it says that you can call and cancel and reschedule your interview so I'm wondering if it is worth trying to schedule the interview in advance and then reschedule if needed. I'm afraid they won't let you schedule in advance of receiving the NOA2 but am just curious if it is worth a shot. I guess if you called a few times you would be out the money of buying the PIN number to call the scheduling line but that maybe worth it.

Thanks!

They will not schedule an interview for someone that they have no file started for. The file won't be started until you get your NOA2 and your petition goes through NVC and then on to the consulate in Kiev. You are lucky in the fact that your embassy will schedule an interview in just over one month provided you get the packet 3 paperwork and medical done in a timely manner.

Delist your question in the RUB regional forum which is populated by tons of folks who have gone through Kiev.

Kiev works like this...

There is no "packet 3" so to speak. Your approved petition will go to the NVC for their processing which will take 3 days to 8 weeks. Then it will be sent to Kiev. Kiev will receive it and enter it into their system within 2-3 weeks after you receive notice that your case has been sent to them. Then you call and schedule an appointment. The Kiev consulate website gives current lead times for interviews. In the past few years these have ranged from 2 months to same day or next day. Last summer they were running about 3 days lead time.

They will ask you for the NVC number which begins with "KEV" to schedule an interview. You can schedule the medical as soon as you have the KEV number or you can schedule the interview and then schedule the medical the day before.

Get all your documents ready now. You do not send anything to Kiev, you bring it to the interview. If everything is in order you will get your visa. If you do not have everything your visa will be delayed. Kiev is an "easy" consulate but they are particular about having the correct documents.

Unfortunately I cannot give you abetter estimate it it will be anywhere from 4 weeks to 4 months after your NOA2 before you get an interview. For us we got the NOA2 in under two months, but had to wait another 3 months to get the interview. Seems they get you one way or another. Check the website for current interview lead times.
