My husband called to get his immunization records and they told him that they delete files in Canada ever so often. They only have records for him from 1986 and on...is this okay? Did anyone else come across this situation?

How long do records take to arrive??

Probably will be required to get re-vaccinated or tested for immunity (titer Tests) for immigrations related vaccinations.

Most only need:

  • MMR
  • Varicalla
  • Td Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I'm going to move your thread to the Canada Regional Forum as there will be people there who will be able to give you updated information wrt records. In my own case I had no records because my vaccinations were received in the UK (where I'm from). I just took a copy of the immunization requirements to my GP and he gave me some booster shots then wrote down on his prescription pad everything I would have received in the UK, plus the boosters. I took that with me to the medical and they were fine with that.

My husband had the same problem as Krikit. He knew that he was long overdue for his tetnus shot (you need to get that every 10 years), so he got that vaccine. We assume he was vaccinated for measles/mumps/rubella as a child because this would have been required to go to public schools in Alberta, but he actually got two of the three of those as a kid so he went ahead and just got the vaccine again. He told the doctor at his physical that he'd had chicken pox as a child and they just wrote varicella history on the immunization form and that was good enough.

If you can't track down actual immunization records, you can either get a titre test to show whether you are still immune or just go ahead and get the boosters again anyway. One poster here, who is a nurse, recommended everyone get the titre tests because immunity can wear off over time, which is what we assume happened to my husband (since he was vaccinated but still contracted measles and mumps).

I had no records for immunization for the same reason. At my medical exam here in the US they checked my titre levels for my response on MMR and I advised I had chicken pox when little and the date. I was skin tested for TB and I was revaccinated for tetanus. That was it.

The medical clinic in Vancouver said a male my age (34) only needed Varicella (or verbal declaration of chicken pox), MMR, and TDap. My elementary school vaccination records are long buried at my parent's house, if they even still exist. So I had blood tests done to verify Varicella and MMR. Manitoba Health wouldn't give me TDap, so the Vancouver medical clinic arranged for me to get it the same day as the medical, at a travel clinic a few blocks away.

After I entered the US, the civil surgeon wanted me to get a Hep vaccine before they'd transcribe my vaccination record, so i got that too.

I came across the same problem. I checked with my old school board and the Immunization Dept. Both said records are destroyed after 20 yrs. I had to get a recent flu shot so also got Tetanus and Diphtheria. As far as MMR I am too old, apparently I can have a blood test that shows immunities in the body to these as I have had both Measles and Chickenpox as a child. Now I just have to get Hep A and B. I guess the Dr. at the medical will decide if I need anything else.

you only need Hep B if you are 18 and under and you only need Hep A if you are between 12 months to 23 months old...

That's what the medical clinic in Vancouver was thinking when they checked them off as "Age Inappropriate". But the Civil Surgeon in Salt Lake City wouldn't do my I-693 unless I went to a public health clinic and had them done. Their reasoning, they said, was that there is a non-trivial amount of Hep floating around in the local population.

But you shouldn't need to have those done prior to the medical exam in Canada. Just get what the Canadian medical clinic tells you you need, and worry about the rest later.

I was e-mailing the Medical people in Toronto, and they said to me that I needed proof of the Flu Shot as well. Apparently its a new requirement? I went in and got a note from my doctor anyways just in case. Kind of weird!

Not new, One is only required to have a flu shot during flu season. In most cases people by pass the season and therefor are not required to have it. I did my medical the end of september fortunately Canada does not start giving the flu shot till the end of October so I did not require it, made me smile as I had already gotten a few shots the week before for mmr and Td..(I didnt want to be poked again lol)
