Hello,

Hope you can help me out with this...

I had my medical (for K1 application) in April 2005. Got married in June 2005. Submitted my AOS in Aug 2005. I just received my interview notice - scheduled for OCt 2006.

Question--- do i still need a full blown medical? this confuses me to no end.

Thanks much.

Yes you will need another medical exam for the AOS here in the states, If you have a doctor here see if they can do it for you and if the local office will accept that.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

I think dan is wrong. Since you filed your AOS within the first year of your K1 - you do not need a medical. Some have been RFEd for it and if that happens then you may need to get it done (or fight it out.) Good Luck

You only need to have another medical done if it was more than 1 year before you filed for AOS... you say you had your medical in April 2005 and you filed in August 2005...

The interview letter does say unless submitted... if they needed you to have another medical they would have sent you a RFE...

Good Luck with the interview.

I agree with your statement except for one part: if this person gets an RFE for a new medical, it will be pointless to fight it. The USCIS can request a new one if they so desire. Fighting it, arguing with them is futile. They (USCIS) will plainly tell you that these are only guidelines and they have the right to request whatever they choose to help them process the application to their satisfaction.

i know i am being ####### on this..... my medical was 4 mos old at the time of AOS filing but would be 16 mos old at the time of the interview. i dont know if the 12 mos exemption still apply to me. I would like to think that the 1 year rule was laid down wiht the intent that the AOS process will be a short one. needless to say, mine was delayed.

anyone on the same boat as i am? btw, i'll be interviewed in chicago.

thanks, again guys. this forum has been a big help to me since day 1.

The regulations state that a K-1 does not need another medical if the AOS was SUBMITTED within 12 months of the medicals completion. My medical was done in February 2004 and I filed for AOS July 2004. My AOS was approved May 2006 and I did not require another medical even though it was done 27 months before the AOS approval. You don't need to redo the medical unless they ask you through an RFE. Good luck on your interview.

I have a question here sorry... I was looking for a list of Civil Surgeons in California and they're all pretty far away (2-4 hours).

Does anyone know if they are located mostly in the towns where there are local service centers? I can't find anything here...

Thanks,

Sarah

i dont know which part of CA you are in. Are you using the Civil Surgeon locator in the USCIS website? I guess that is your best guide in search for a designated medical practitioner.

This thread has got me wondering.. I just sent my vaccination supplement with my AOS package and didn't get an RFE. My interview is Sept 25th, is there a chance they'll ask for the I-693A?

The interview letter says "a completed medical examination (form I-693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted)"

Would I be right in thinking they would already have the medical examination in the mysterious brown envelope? Or do I still need the I-693A? There's no mention of the I-693A on the interview letter.

Any help would be great.

While I personally am an advocate for sticking with the letter of the law and sending the I-693A with your AOS application, there are plenty of folks here who sent a copy of DS-3025 instead -- showing all vaccinations completed -- and were approved with no problem. The immigration officer who will be interviewing you should have your medical examination paperwork from the mysterious brown envelope. So chances are if you haven't received an RFE by this point, you'll be fine. However, one poster here (Debby) did receive an RFE at her AOS interview for the I-693A, even though she had sent the DS-3025 from her K1 medical examination in with her AOS application, and it showed that all her vaccinations were complete. She had to go to a civil surgeon to get I-693A filled out, and last I heard is still waiting for her AOS approval.

You may want to check your interview letter.... the "vaccination supplement (unless already submitted)" item indicated in there is, i believe, the I693A.
