Hello, I went to the USCIS website to check on case status today and it indicated that my petition for my wife was approved on Dec 29. However when I checked for her child it indicated still intial review. Both I-130 were mailed together and both had the same received dates. Is this normal? Also should I wait until I get confirmation on my step childs approval before I continue with NOA2?

Thanks,

Tony

The norm lately is for the website status to be inaccurate. Perhaps when you see the written notices, you'll see they are both approved. Lots of strange online status reports lately.

I've posted this quite a few times. My case still shows pending on the USCIS website, and my wife has been here almost 2 years now. They can't seem to figure out how to update a website, but fortunately they can can figure out how to mail a letter. Go with what you see on paper from them.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

So once I see the written notices then I can move forward with the NVC process. I hope this is the case then. Oh by the way, I will need some good advice on answering some of the questions on the DS-230 for both her & the child plus maybe some help with the I-864. Not so much with my wife, its the stepchild part that has me a little confused. If anyone has gone throught this before with a child I would appreciate any suggestions when the time comes.

Also, I have been reading the EZguidespouse and the LingChe NVC Shortcut guides but still am unsure of what will happen next. Once I get the written notice, then I will update my timeline.

Thanks again,

Tony

Well I recieved the notice in the mail today for my wife and she was approved however nothing on the step child. Both packet were sent together to the Chicago Lockbox, then both sent to California. This is frustrating. so either they are investigating the girl further or they have lost the packet. In the I-130, the mother was the only person listed on the birth certificate for the child because the father left when the mother was pregnant. I also added the copy of the Philippines Document on illegitimate children in the I-130's for both the mother and daughter. Any suggestions on what I should do next?

Thank you,

Tony

I would wait a day or two and if you still haven't heard anything about your step child. I would call USCIS. I had 2 children I had to fill forms out for.
