Applying for tourist visa while K1 pending

Hello everyone,

I am very disappointed to find out how slow the K1 time line is. We filed a little over 2 months ago and apparently with the rate it's going we will have to wait at least 6 months, before we can start a life together.

Since I have met him in August I have been to Turkey 4 times. I used up my vacation time and looks like I will not be able to travel at least for a few months. It seems like the only solution is to give Tourist Visa a try.

My questions is: Has anyone ever tried this, or know someone who did? I know it's legal and doesn't affect the K1 decision, but is there any hope for approval? What measures could we take to make it possible, etc.

Thanks ahead to those who will respond.

Sadly we all have the same wait time. Bahadir and I have been together for a year and are 2 months into out visa process. Its hard on all of us. Its just patience you must put into effect. I know many people in Turkey dont have the easiest time getting the tourist visa. It might be wasted money and the wait time can be same.... Time will pass..we are here together waiting...

Tourist Visas are difficult to get for any foreigner from any country unless they have very strong ties to their homeland with purpose and need to go back. I have to agree with Nihal above, that you can try for a Tourist Visa, but it could cost you money that you maybe need later in your K1 process.

The Immigration process does have what I dub "waiting pains" and those of us who are going through it with you know all too well the heartache. :crying: But the good news is that you can meet many of us here who understand and friends from all over the world are endless. It really does help to bond while we wait.

I hope you get to meet many new friends here and good luck with your VJ.

I don't expect it to be easy and I am not too concerned with the $140 dollar application fee, I believe it's worth it. But I am curious if historically they ever approved tourist visas for those who are waiting for the K1, or if they flat out don't even consider it. Have you guys ever heard of a case where they may allow for this? My fiance has his own business and has enough evidence to show he cannot just up and leave, he has a business to sell and accounts to transfer. I am sure our case will be strong enough especially when we show them how many times I traveled to see him.

I feel all of you guys' pain, having found the one person you want to spend the rest of your life with but not being able to be together is major blow. Patience is a tough virtue for me in general and this process is really testing it.

Honestly, before my fiancee and I started out on this process, we saw that other people were getting approved within 2 to 4 months at the latest between NOA1 and NOA2. Therefore, we thought the K-1 visa was the fastest way for 2 lovers to be together since the K-3 visa at the time would take several months for approval or maybe an entire year or longer. Since I filed for her K-1 visa back in August, we are now 4.5 months into the waiting phase, and we are both fearing this process can take longer than 5 months. Because the USCIS website does show a maximum 5 month time-frame, I will call them in the next few weeks to ask them why it's taking them this long and that they are outside the 5-month range then. From the numerous posts I have read on this topic, it is useless to call any earlier since they'll ask me to wait after my 5 months is up. To give you a straight and honest answer, do not expect this visa to be a quick visa at all. Something has happened at the Vermont Service Center to cause them to process all fall or later applications much slower than the summer or earlier applications.

To answer your question, yes I tried this. My fiance went in the middle of December and we had all of our papers and finances in order. They asked the usual questions and she told the truth, that she would be visiting for the holidays and I would be paying for the trip and responsible. We had all the proof needed and the girl insisted that my fiance needed to file for the K-1. After telling her we already filed and are waiting, the girl went out three different times to ask about it. Finally one of the directors came in to tell my fiance no. Guil is very Latin and wouldn't take no for an answer when we know we are in the right, however we had to swallow it and realize that they weren't going to do it. Basically if you have any pending visa applications at all, you can't get approved for any others. As far as I have researched and learned this applies to all visas, especially K-1. In the aftermath, I realize just how ridiculous the whole process and system is. I feel totally disillusioned with the whole thing. Good luck on your journey, sorry for the bad news. It might make you feel a little better to know you at least tried.

You can certainly visit whilst the process is underway, many people do.

Whether any particular individual will get a Visa to visit depends on their particular circumstances.

What i feel is our life is on some one else hand , there is not guarantee that we can live with our fiance

This whole process is ridiculous .

Yes I agree...Bahadir and I are so easy going till it went into their hands for them to decide...now we feel the uneasy...but we try very hard to keep working hard and moving forward..I know in bahadir and I's case no matter what happens we will have our life together...

You can't have two visa applications running at the same time. If your fiance had a B2 already it would work, but you can't apply for a non-immigrant visa after you just applied for an immigrant visa (not quite correct, but usable for this purpose) .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Hi how are you? My suggest to you is be patient and wait as all of us doing same.No need waste money and touristic visa is very hard to get.Just keep faith and patient and you will get K1 visa soon, we all know how it is irritating waiting time but then you will forget about this irritating time.My love and I was mad during the waiting time and i did not see him almost 7 month and badly miss him, but we got NOA2 and now the process will go fast I am sure.

Keep faith and patient guys it is deserve to be together!!!

I know that my situation is a little different, but Efe already had a tourist visa before starting the K1 process. It took about 8 months from our 129F submittal to interview (and we knew beforehand that it would take at least this long) so we decided that Efe would try to come here while waiting. It was a big gamble, and a lot of stress in customs, but he got through. I don't know if your fiance will be approved for another visa but if he gets it that would be great.

Hi Nicole, thank you for the post. As you know, anything is worth a try while the wait goes on. When you say a lot of stress at the customs, what do you mean? Did they actually try not to let him in? Or it was just you guys worrying? Tell me a little more please. Any bit of information helps.
