Despite what you may think, a lot of 'economic' policy, education, and health care in Fascism comes from left-wing/populist idealisms, not right-wing. While a lot of social tendencies do tend to lean 'right' --- Gun laws for Fascists lean left-wing as well as fascists believe in an unarmed society is much easier to control.

As I said, if you understand anything about typical fascism, then there's no way anyone could call it 'extreme right' when looking at the entire picture.

Gun laws in Vermont are the most "extreme right wing" in the United States and always have been. So why are we the only state with a stated Socialist as a Senator and considered the "most liberal state"?

I consider all people that are not pro-choice on EVERYTHING to be fascists. Fascists as well as Communists, and Socialists to a lesser degree, are not about FREEDOM. If I find my rights being taken away I will fire in both directions!

???? those are two opposing points of view. That doesn't even make sense. Someone who would be against government trash pick up would also oppose recycling inspections.

I think I was kinda agreeing with your point that they step between Libertarian and fascist is huge.

Oh dear. Seriously, if you can't even understand the terminology used for the purpose of political discussion what's the point of trying to discuss politics? Fascism is about as right wing as you can get. Political ideology is not simply small gov right, big gov left. Hopelessly ignorant.

Really. Some liberal professor stuck Fascism over there on the right side of the spectrum, only because he did not want it placed on the left side, although National Socialism and Fascism share many more ideas with the early Progressive Movement, than they do with traditional American Conservatism. And, it has stuck. Now, the new oxymoronic term Radical Right has been popularized by Pelosi and others on the fringe left. Seems the Liberals want to distance themselves from any ideology that could possibly be mistaken for their own.

Of course, silly me, those dumb professors always skewing things to make themselves out to be better than every one else.

Mind you, you are the guy that believes that rocket science is 2 parts theory to 1 part prayer. Tell me Bill, what's your explanation for plane crashes? Does the theory of aerodynamics fail at the precise moment the plane starts to fall?

Those the can do. Those that cannot teach. Tenure is a wonderful means for instructors to rise to the level of their incompetence.

I know, I get it, being educated is a terrible thing, so elitist and librul. The ignorant poking fun at the educated for being educated. That's one of the funniest things I ever heard of, that and the prayers of rocket scientist helping those rockets stay airborne :)

on the contrary, a professor in his profession for decades has lost touch with the real world as much as a politician who has been in office for a similar amount of time.

There comes a point when what you know, is no longer what you knew to be right.

You do know that the main function of tenured professors in Universities is NOT teaching? I guess you don't. Personally, I value education, at the very least it gives you the tools to recognize that definitions are not arbitrary or whimsical. I have no idea why there is this denial of fascism as an extreme right wing ideology. It is as if those who have a slight conservative bent are incapable of understanding that not everything that is a bad idea politically stems from communism.

I'm sure everyone's seen the "political compass". There are two axes - one that measures left vs right (economic) and one that measures autocratic vs. libertarian (government involvement). Trying to collapse these two into one to form a circle doesn't seem accurate. Fascism is not the same as communism any more than fascism is the same as libertarianism or libertarianism is the same as anarchism.

Not only that, few governments in practice follow an ideology with any consistency. It always cracks me up when I see the tea party protesters with signs saying things like "keep your government hands off my medicare" I see very few of that crowd willing to acknowledge that the social security many of them hold dear for their own or other family members is inherently a very socialist program! The best government, IMO, is one that does not follow a rigid ideology, but that uses a pragmatic approach using the best and most practical ideas that work for real people in real situations.

If you want pragmatic and practical, then republics and especially democracies are not the way to go. But, since we have long since rejected the concepts of Noblesse Oblige and chivalry, then I guess we are stuck with the unpragmatic, the unpractical, and the ineffective.
