... not everyone has the knowledge of how everything works or support for the best possible steps considering I don't come from a line of degree holders.

That is why it is a shame when high school counselor positions are cut, especially in high schools where many graduates come from households where there are no college graduates.

Neo-nazis (or even Nazis) embrace Statism because their ideals (ethnic purity) can only be realized through a strong, authoritarian government. There are common traits among the various political ideologies, but that doesn't necessarily mean that one will lead to another. Fascism is authoritarian and Right Wing Extremism leans toward a strong authoritarian government, but so does Left Wing Extremism. They are essentially two sides of the same coin. As to the nuts and bolts of how and why it happens to be that way - a satisfactory answer would be at least an essay in length, and would probably provoke more questions than answers, which is why I recommend taking a course and talking with a political science professor. Why not satisfy your curiosity in a class room setting where you can openly ask or challenge your professor on the conventional meanings of political ideologies?

I appreciate your thoughts on it. It really seems that the left-right scale is arbitrary. As far as taking a political science course. I guess I could do that some day. For now i'm pretty busy with a full time job and i'm a more than half-time grad student. Also, I don't really feel comfortable expressing an opposing opinion to a professor when my grade is in his/her hands.

I also think it is a shame they cut the shop classes and vocational education. I learned a lot in metal and wood shops. It be nice to have a trade, when the market tanks, and all you book learned folks are looking for door greeter jobs at Walmart.

IMO, you're really short changing yourself by not participating in classroom discussions. You've never raised your hand when you believed an answer to be different from what your teacher is giving you? Wow. Talk about missed opportunities.

We just went through a pretty bad recession and unemployment rates among the college-educated was consistently lower than among those who were not. You got it upside down, buddy.

Community college has changed a lot since you probably last took a class. The local community college where I live now, focuses on Fire Science and Nursing, two vocations that our community here happens to need a lot of.

Well it's like this, I get on an internet forum and state my opinion and everyone scoffs and tells me I'm stupid. I can handle that. But to do it in a room of people is a bit different and harder to handle.

Could be. I was talking about high school and when I was living in Socal. LA City Schools ran the community colleges and vocational schools, besides the high schools, junior high schools and elementary. They had technical high schools as well, that offered a basic education, and concentrated on trade skills.

Santa Rosa Junior College here north of SF trains most of the Police, Fire, and EMS folks for several of the county and local governments in this part of the state, as well as offering a number of certification courses in various professions. Before HP relocated, many of the employees continued their education at SRJC.

As far as vocational training, the community colleges do a fine job. But, the high schools do seem to be one size fits all these days.

I remember when the aerospace industry laid off heavily and engineers were looking for jobs sweeping floors when I was growing up. I graduated college just in time for the tech bubble to burst. I guess it is all relative to where you are standing at the time.

I was a reentry student. I did well in High School, taking all the advanced and college prep courses. When I graduated, I went a different direction. I didn't go to college until I was 26, except for a course here and there, that I never completed. Like you said, the junior college option was less expensive, and more than adequate for the lower division courses I took preparing for the university. I was able to challenge some of the course requirements that wouldn't transfer, and that cut down on some of the time playing catch-up when it came time to finish my four year degree at the university.

I think one of my most challenging classes was at the community college, from a professor known for being hard. And it wasn't a hard math or science, it was Humanities of all things. She wanted your brain squished and stretched in every way possible! Those were some of the hardest memorization tests in all the classes I took including at USF. I got my AA degree at the community college and easily transferred into the university. My problem was I couldn't figure out what I wanted to major in until I had to declare it on the app for USF. I picked one that interested me most at the time(not a money maker though). I had to commute and still didn't live on compass, but for what I did, going to community college first didn't negatively affect it. I know compared to top notch colleges my education and choices would be considered low end. But I know I could have gotten a better paying degree at the same univ, on the same route of starting at community college and transferring.

How does Libertarianism (limited government control) lead to fascism. They are opposites. Fascism is just another form of government that has some level of unbridled or loosely bridled power.

When you tell someone, i'll go with what the scholars say, and then copy and paste some pedantic jpeg image, it just shows your inability to think for yourself If you want to prove your point, don't copy and paste a stupid chart or say that you are agreeing with "scholars" (implying that anyone who disagrees is some sort of idiot) then you should somehow make an argument as to why you believe that fascists are "right-wing." By the way, we wouldn't call liberals socialists if they didn't espouse socialists policies. I think most liberals don't even shy away from being called socialists anymore but continue to shy away from being called communists or Marxists.

There is a view that libertarianism could lead to fewer freedoms, rather than more.

If you minimise government and government oversight, you're putting control into the hands of the halliburtons and blackwaters. Rather than a general redistribution of power you get tyranny in different hands.

Well that's fine and it makes sense but it has nothing to do with Neo-Nazism or fascism. It is a rational argument on how Anarcho-Capitalism is an extreme form of libertarianism. Don't get me wrong, i appreciate your comment and i do find it insightful.
