NOA1 First or Check Cashed First?

Hi All - I can't seem to find a definite answer to this question. Does USCIS cash the check first or send the NOA1 first?

The reason I'm asking is because I sent my K1 application on Dec 24th and it was rec'd in TX on Dec 27th. I just rec'd the NOA1 email notification this morning but don't see the check has cleared the bank.

And now I'm worried b/c I am out of the country and my car was stolen while I've been away. There were blank checks in my car and I had to call my bank and have them freeze my account until I get back. Therefore, no funds can go out at this time. And my online access doesn't show the USCIS check has cleared my bank at this time.

So I'm just a bit worried. Should I contact them and see if I can overnight a new check to them? I just don't want our packet to be returned due to this.

Thanks for any advice!

Brandy

Brandy

From checking out other people's timelines and some recent posts, the check is cashed a day or two before your NOA1 is sent.

The e-mail notification is merely that....your application package was received in the mail.

If there is a problem with your check, the entire application package will be returned to you and you will be asked to send it again with a new check. When that happens, in your cover letter mention the circumstances why the previous check was on hold.

Cashing the cheque is the first thing that will happen. You can call them to see what's going on and to inform them of your situation

Good luck

Ok. So the email I guess was just to inform us that TX rec'd it and is forwarding it to Vermont. I am planning to contact my bank to see if there is anyway they will let that one transaction go through or not. If not, I will try the USCIS and see if I can have another check sent to them immediately.

I am just soooooo frustrated with the situation. I can't believe my car was stolen and put me in this predicament!!

Thanks,

Brandy

The statement in bold above is incorrect. They'll deal with a problem with a check by redepositing it and then if it doesn't clear, they'll contact you for payment. They will NOT return the package due to a bad check. They only do that if the check is missing. If you can call the bank and notify them to accept THAT check when it come in, that would solve the problem. Not sure the bank will do that though.

Sounds messy, hope it doesn't make an already long wait even longer!

You're not far behind us. Our I-129F was received 12/14, check cleared my credit union 12/17 (so likely was cashed 12/15?) and we received NOA1 hardcopy on 12/20. They're pretty quick, but this is about all they seem to be quick with :(

To echo what others have said, call your bank. They're the only ones that can give you definite info anyway. Good luck!

Well - I called my bank and b/c the account is frozen they will not let ANY transaction clear the bank. Only deposits will be allowed to come through. They did tell me that the check tried to be cashed today, but was rejected

I called the USCIS Customer Service line and spoke with a very automated human. She read me a very scripted response and said the 'packet' would be returned. So I don't know what will happen now. It's really frustrating!

Thanks,

Brandy

She was guessing wrong. When you call the misinformation line, expect what you deserve.

Aloha,

We received NAO 1 in the mail today but check has not been cashed. Also interesting is after registering on the USCIS site when I put in the receipt number it says it is not in the system. I'll wait a couple of days and check again. Good luck.

Paul
