J1 Waiver No Objection Italy timeline

ok, i'm getting a little desperate here. it's been 3 weeks since DOS sent the favorable recommendation. So far I haven't received the favorable recommendation OR a receipt notice from USCIS. I just called USCIS and they said they can't help me because I don't have a case number. The woman who was talking to me had no clue what I was talking about. She didn't even know they had something to do with the waiver.

What should I do??? I'm freaking out =(

Did you change your address? Are you living outside the US? There could be many reasons for the delay...

Worst case would be that they have lost it, but I don't think so.

Maybe you should call DOS, just in case?

Try to wait a little bit more.

No! My mailing adress (that I put on the form) is my boyfriend's adress, in Pennsylvanya! He's been checking the mail everyday and nothing arrived so far!! I'm calling DOS first thing in the morning! I really hope they didn't lose it and I hope whatever happened can be fixed! Thanks for the words of support!! I'm really afraid!! I need that waiver for my k1 visa... I'll keep u guys posted!

Don't worry so much, these things can take a while. Our timelines may not apply to your case because every case is the same. Once the DoS takes its decision, it is DONE, almost. USCIS will follow their decision 99% of the cases. There is no reason to be afraid. For some people it takes months and I know that waiting is frustrating, but CHILL. Do yoga, meditate, dance, sleep or drink. Do whatever works for you to relax. Worrying is not going to solve anything. You face the problems rationally as soon as they arise. And they will, because this is just the beginning of your immigration "journey" and K1+ green card (trust me) is going to be much more stressful than this.

A couple of things you can do:

1)Try to call DoS and make sure they know that he is your boyfriend and he can receive your notifications.

2)Next thing, ask your boyfriend to go to the post office (I think you could even do it through the website) and associate your name to his address. My first notification that I received the waiver did not go through because my name was not on the mailbox. They had to send me a duplicate and in the meanwhile they changed my status in "initial review" (which was a little scary after 4 months waiting... ahah). Just to tell you that the do illogical things sometimes and you can't assume that you know exactly what's going on, because you don't. So don't assume that something is wrong, and if it is you'll fix it.

Hope it helps. It mostly helps me to be reminded that worrying is never an effective solution.

Thanks for the words!! I know I gotta try to relax, but it's just that it seems impossible to me that i wouldn't receive the recommendation OR the USCIS case number in 3 weeks!!

But anyway, I tried to call DOS today but I found out their office is closed on wedensdays!! So I'll try again tomorrow.

I called USCIS again today and this time the person who talked to me actually knew what I was talking about. She got some information from me, checked on their system and said there is no case opened with my name/date of birth. She suggested I call again in 2 weeks, if nothing happens. So well, I'll see what DOS has to say about it tomorrow.

Thanks for the post office tip!!! I'll see if he can do it asap!! =) Although, I have received correspondence at that adress b4, but it's better to just put my name in the mailbox to make sure!

Did you have to pay something to get the duplicate? I found a forum where lots of ppl never heard from USCIS (just like me) and when they finally got their recepit number by phone, they were told that they´re case had already been approved and sent, but got lost in the mail! And they had to pay a $340 fee to get a duplicate, which is absurd!

If you received your I-979C then there's DEFINITELY something wrong with my case =( i really don't know what to do anymore! i call USCIS and they say there's no case in the system with my name. I fax DOS saying USCIS never got the recommendation letter and they don't answer me. What they need to do is re-send the letter to USCIS! I just don't know how to make them do that =(

Eric, that's ridiculous... Sorry to hear that.

Congrats Postnatvk1979! You can start adjusting with the DOS recommendation, but I would wait if you are not in a hurry, so you can send a complete application.

The weird thing is that I haven't received the fav. rec. from DoS YET, just the RECEIPT NUMBER from USCIS, so now I can check my status online. (I-797C Notice of Action). I just checked and it says: Initial Review

I think that is enough, right?

Mathilda: did you receive the I-797C notice of action letter with the case number as well? Did you receive the I612 later?

My waiver is based on No Objection too.

Hello there!

Just to let you know that I received my favorable recommendation letter from DoS (on the mail/in hand) on June 21, 2011.

And I just checked on the USCIS website that my Waiver was approved!!!

So I would like to share my TIMELINE (No Objection Waiver):

January 27, 2011: DoS received all documents from me (DS3035, DS2019, passport data page, Statement of Reason, and fee)

June 7, 2011: DoS received the No Objection Statement from my Home Country (Finally after 4.5 months!!!)

June 7, 2011: DoS issued a Favorable recommendation (the same day they received the No objection letter from my country!)

June 7, 2011: DoS sent the Favorable recommendation (one copy to me and one to the USCIS)

June 17, 2011: Received I797C from USCIS, receipt notice with receipt number so I can check my case status online.

June 21, 2011: I received favorable recommendation letter from DoS on the mail (Letter dated June 13)

June 22, 2011: Waiver Approved!!! on the USCIS website (They said the following on their website: "On June 22, 2011 we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I612 Application to Waive Foreign Residence Requirements...")

So the Waiver is coming soon!!!

Keep calling DoS. They gave you a favorable recommendation, maybe they just forgot to send it. It is very strange. Try to talk to somebody at DoS.

updating... I've been keeping calling, emailing, faxing BOTH uscis and dos, still without any luck!

but then, yesterday, i finally received DOS favorable recommendation letter! It says it was sent on may 24th, but i only received it yesterday. USCIS still says that there's no case open in my name. But since I just got the favorable recommendation letter yesterday i'll give them some time until I call again... but if nothing changes i'm thinking about sendind them this letter myself!

oh well... at least this gave me a little hope not to give up
