My mom got granted a green card on dec 7/2010, but due to a high blood pressure complication she is in the hospital and i will take her couple of weeks before she will recover. Can somebody tell me how long she can stay in her country without entering the US and not losing her green card. How many days does she have to enter the US? spmebody told me 45 days from the day the green card was granted. is this accurate?

For clarity sake. You are aware of the difference between an immigration visa and a green card right?

The US Embassy/Consulate do not grant green cards. They grant immigration visas. A green card is granted only after a person enters the US with an immigration visa.

An immigration visa has an expiration date on it. The intending immigrant must enter the US by the expiration date. After the expiration date, the visa is no longer valid for entering the US. If the intending immigrant anticipates that he/she cannot immigrate to the US before the visa expires, he/she should contact the US Embassy/Consulate for further information. Every US Embassy/Consulate will have its own procedure on how to deal with the situation.

If your mom has already immigrate to the US and has a valid green card and is on a temporary trip outside the US, she must overcome the presumption that she has abandoned her LPR status. Hospitalization is an acceptable reason for an extended stay outside the US which will not cause her to lose her LPR status. However, she should contact the US Embassy/Consulate to make them aware that she does not intend to abandon her LPR status.

By the way, it takes a whole lot longer than 45 days outside the US for an LPR to be considered to have abandoned that status.

she has 6 months to enter the US for the first time, since she was granted the visa. as said, she will be given the GC in the US. the GC can take up to a year, and that's why she has a stamp in the passport, she can use it to work or travel once she lives here, if the GC hasn't arrived yet.

she will be fine. Hope she feels better.
