Hi Everyone hope you are doing well :)

So my finace and I finally got married today! yay!

I want to change my name but am not sure when/how I should do this. I do not have a SSN yet. Should I fill out the AOS/AP/EAD with my maiden name or married name? I also need to get a new passport from canada (home) but my K1 visa is in my current passport.

When filing for AP what do you in the fields requesting info about your future travels? I am just filing it because it is included in the cost and I would love to see my family before I get my GC but have no specific travel plans. I read one lady added in an explanation saying she filed an i-485 etc and then someone corrected her saying you can just leave it blank if you are sending it in with the i-485. Does anyone have any clarifying information?

Thanks a million! I am totally overwhelmed by all this... I appreciate the support on VJ SOSO much!

For AP based on a pending I-485 you do not have to attach any explanation or provide a specific travel date, but it does not hurt to do so. AP is routinely approved for AOS applicants, so there is nothing really to prove there. They won't decide your reason is bad and deny you. Make sure it is signed and filled out basically right and you're fine :)

Congrats on your marriage!!

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thank you so much guys! I am so stressed about all this. I thought that after the K1 approval I would feel more secure. Now I just feel like security is along way off...

There is an AOS thread in my signature that has the document list, and definitions and links that should help you out.

For the AP dates I put "unknown" for both date and length of time. No issues. I personally disagree with writing an arbitrary date because it is, in essence, lying on an official form. Of course I doubt you'd get into trouble for it, I just don't agree with it.

The form is a multi-use form for both AP, and re-entry permits. Some people apply for them when they have actual events requiring leaving. For example a friends father was dying, when she applied she put a date she WANTED to leave and called to have it expedited. Some people have honeymoons planned, or trips to visit family so they have stuff actually planned and that's when they put the dates.. but it's important to note that they don't seem to deliberately approve before that date or anything. You'd think they'd hurry it up thinking you have plans but they don't so really it doesn't seem the date matters.

Moved from AOS from a family visa forum to Working & Travelling during US Immigration forum as the main focus is on the AP application, even though it is being filed with the AOS

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
