USCIS status website

Hey all,

This may be a simple question already answered somewhere - sorry if it has been, I looked but couldn't find it.

We received NOA1 about 2 weeks ago. I sent the packet and for whatever reason decided against sending the form that allows USCIS to email/text you status updates (thought I would only want hardcopies mailed to me, just for tangible proof of whatever). No problem, even though I wish I could change that now :P

My question is - how long does it take for USCIS status updates to appear on their website? I know we are at the beginning of a 5 month wait... but we're excited, and our "WAC" number included on NOA1 shows nothing on the website (it says to check back later). I'm sure it takes a while to process, especially considering the holidays and all, but does anyone have input as to how long until we see something? Isn't this where we will see "touches" at?

Thanks in advance for your time! :)

Depends. For some, its visible as soon as they get NOA1. Some weeks after that, and for some, it never appears. Just luck of the draw.

What they said! That's what we did with the email notification. We haven't received NOA1 hardcopy yet. Good luck :)

We had selected both options for e-mail and txt notification on the website. I received the NOA2 in the mail, but never received an e-mail, txt, and the website was never updated.

I personally would not bother with the USCIS web site. It is a big waste of time. I enrolled to receive text and email notification when I first sent my package. The initial dates showed up, but have never changed. I already received my NOA2, but the case status never updates. It just came in the mail. I have seen many post that say the same thing.

Good Luck, friend.

Thank you for the advice, but it seems that even in doing so, I can register and sign up - however, since the "case doesn't exist" it can't list it as something in my portfolio. Too bad for us for now :( but it was definitely worth a try

I guess we'll just wait and see if something shows up in the coming weeks and add it from there! Thanks guys for the thoughts!

We signed up for email & text. We got a text to check our status & it said approved. Best Text ever! You will still get the hard copies. You need them for your interview & medical.

Stay strong.. it's a long waiting process.

I signed up for email updates but I have never received one single email update from USCIS. We have waited for 5 months for the petition to be approved. My fiance received a letter by mail sent on the very last day of the 5 month period. My interview is next month but the bubble still says "Initial review", it has been this way for 6 months now... Don't rely on USCIS website. You have to be very, very patient and to look forward to receiving some notice by mail. Good luck  Happy New Year!!!

This is so true. The website seems to be not updated for some reason. So I just wait for it to come in the mail rather than be anxious checking the website for an update and wait for an email or text.

I'm in the same position. I got my NOA 1 and signed up for the txt messages. I got the text message way before the hard copy but the USCIS website shows nothing. I check everyday and still nothing. I would not worry about it Murphy's Law in full force when it comes to immigration.

I heard of a case where the couple went all the way to the actual visa, yet the website still said "initial evaluation".

You really can't rely on the website.
