The first time I cooked bacon Tuyen looked disgusted when she saw it. She said it has too much fat and it smells bad. On Sunday I cooked some for hamburgers and she told it it smelled good. Then on Monday she cooked a 1/2 pound and ate it for lunch.

My wife cannot stand cheese. She does not like the smell of it and I don't blame her. It takes time to acquire taste for cheese.

Tuyen doesn't like cheese either, but she's coming around. She will eat a couple pieces of pizza now.

My wife did not like sushi at all before she came here and now she loves going to sushi buffets.

She is pretty diverse in her selection now but, she will just about eat lots of international cuisines now, I have yet to let her try Indian.

Mine hates me to eat bacon also because of all the fat but she did cook me a huge pile of it for my birthday. I took her recently to an Indian food place and she liked it. She will eat anything seafood but very little meat. She still can't stomach Mexican food or any food with grease. She can eat pizza some. Basically we go out to eat anywhere and she will find something to eat if at the least vegetables.

They use bacon all the time in Vietnam, it's called Thịt ba chỉ.

My wife and step-kids don't like Chinese food - at all! They say it's too sweet! They also don't like any of the local Vietnamese restaurants because they say the food is Saigon style. There's only one central Vietnam restaurant within driving distance, and it's a 45 minute drive.

Other than that, they all have varied tastes. My step-daughter really likes a Korean BBQ restaurant nearby that specializes in tofu dishes. She also likes spaghetti. Both kids like Mongolian BBQ. My wife is the really picky one. Her favorite foods are the ones she cooks herself.

When we all go out to eat we usually end up at a buffet.

Side Note: Our big Christmas feast for the extended family included a variety of VN dishes cooked by my wife and step-kids, and American dishes cooked by myself. I made a glazed ham, among other things. I left the glaze on the oven reducing it down for about an hour. My wife smelled it and turned up her nose - guess it was the ground cloves. After the ham was finished she tasted it and though it was terrific, especially the glaze. I carefully carved it into thin steaks, and laid it out nicely on a plate for serving. She came in behind me and hacked EVERY little ham steak into a little triangle suitable for eating with "dua".

My 5 lb ham was the only dish that was completely devoured by the end of the night.

My wife and kids also discovered they like cranberries that night. :P

My wife likes Burger King. She enjoys the Whopper with just lettuce and tomatoes, no mayo no ketchup. she like the grilled flavor and says they should put some soy sauce on it. She also likes the cresoints with sauage and egg. It's very odd, she likes BK but does not like McD's. She likes Popeyes but not KFC. She also does not like cheese. We still don't go two days without eating rice.

She will not eat ham. I think the pink color turns her off. She won't even eat the sliced deli turkey. I guess it prepackged sliced meats in general.

Also, my wife has to have a "complete meal". Meaning there has to be a meat/fish dish and a rau/canh dish. I get the nutrional benefits of having a balanced meal, but sometimes it seems like an unnecessay burden. I'm fine with rice and thit kho. But my wife needs to have some type of rau/canh with every meal. I think it's a mental thing, I tell her it's ok not to have rau with every meal, but she refuses to believe so. I get that she enjoys eating rau, but dam. sometimes if we run out of rau, she will eat rice with watermelon or bananas as her rau. any of yall's do that?

In Vietnam they believe that the rau is mát for their body. They believe it helps with indigestion and heartburn or acid reflux. I believe it does really help with the nasty feeling of eating meet only after a big carnivore meal.
