We've been working out butts off trying to get primary evidence since my last post. We've finally gotten somewhere, and my fiance was finally able to collect some primary evidence back in Paris, so if an experienced person who's been through everything can go over what we have any mention if they think it's enough...

1) The one hotel that we stayed at while I was there, did have our names on record with the date. They agreed to give us a "facture" (bill), but HANDWROTE our names on it...it's signed, with an official letterhead, stamped, contact number, the whole nine yards....but its HANDWRITTEN at the top. Couldn't USCIS just assume that we forged it???

2) We're waiting for his medical records. Apparently it will take at least a week or two before the hospital calls him (in the town where I Was staying), from the time he dislocated his shoulder back in April. The man he spoke to at the medical records office in my town, offered to write an official letter and mail it to him in addition, saying that he was in the hospital in the town where I Was living on this date......but it wouldn't have my name on it?!!! Is it ok that is just shows that he was in France at the same time I was, in my town?

3) FORTUNATELY, I called the young worker's dormitory where I was staying in my town, and they agreed to put together a file folder for him with about 9 photocopies of "Guest sheets" from when he stayed with me. They are signed, date, and stamped by the landlord, along with a printed - computerized - copy of the 'bill', with the address and official letterhead of the dormitory. I hope this will be enough if the other two aren't enough.

1. I included lots of handwritten receipts for hotels, bus tickets, ferry tickets etc (I never once in my almost 2 years spent in Kenya got a typed up receipt for a hotel or bus, ha) with both of our names on it and they accepted them.

2. We also included stuff like this. I had a letter from Peace Corps saying that I volunteered at the hospital in my town, and he had a letter from his employer saying he also worked at that same hospital during the same time period. Does that necessarily mean that we met? No, but it still counts as evidence. If you can include something showing that you were ALSO living in that same town at the same time, go ahead and include it. (You may want to attach a post it note explaining the connection...)

3. Good evidence as well.

Do you have passport stamps showing entry? Work visa showing the time you lived in the country? Plane ticket stubs? What you have is good, just include anything you can possibly think of and it will help you feel better about the whole thing :)

Item 1 is useless because, yes, it could be anybody's bill. Item 2 might work but you won't know until you see it. Evidence you were both in France at the same time is what you need, yes. Item 3 would probably be considered secondary evidence but would bolster item 2. The closer it gets to your next planned trip though, the wiser waiting seems.

You really think item 3 would be considered secondary? I thought it was our best primary, considering it has both of our names there, my address of residency, and it's an itemized bill signed by a third party?

We'll see I guess.

Yea, the reason I'm so paranoid about this, is because 'my next planned trip' isn't exactly for sure 100%. I am waiting to hear back from a few jobs, and I'm not sure if they will let me take a trip out there only a month after being hired. I'm hoping after I get hired, if I explain the situation with my fiance, and that I already bought tickets for this date - that they will let me go for a week or so. If not, all we have is the evidence I just listed...:(

Yes, I have:

PRIMARY:

*plane itinerary (mine)

*passport stamps (mine)

*work visa for the year I was in France

*bank statement from my French bank, with my address on them

*paycheck from French government with my address and name

*his medical forms from the hospital in my town

*guest sheet photocopies from my residency

*hotel bill from Paris hotel (handwritten)

SECONDARY:

*photos galore, but handwritten date on the back....clearly taken in front of obvious French landmarks (I can't believe we forgot one in front of the Eiffel tower!)

*print screen shot, with the digital details of date when the photos were shot, from my computer

*emails, translated (copied into a WORD document)

*letters, postcards, translated

*facebook and msn chats, translated -with screen shots of our webcam chats, with the date clearly marked

You have more than enough primary evidence you were in France. You need primary evidence he was in France during the same time period. The best you might have is the hospital bill but it's a bit iffy at this point because if you actually have it now, you've provided not details. Third parties forge documents for a fee quite often. Not saying that's what happened, just that that's why it's secondary evidence.

I'm sorry, what do you mean by "if you actually have it now, you've provided not details?"

His medical record from his hospital stay in the emergency room was from back in April, 2010...it wasn't from now, if that's what you meant? The hospital is sending it to him with official paper, he should be picking it up this week. It also has my name and address on it.

I meant "no details". You don't have it in your hands now, so you don't know if it will be actual evidence until you see it. What something "has on it" is less important than whether it appears clear that it would not or could not be forged. Like your hand written items from the place you lived, this receipt may also have hand written items that could render it less useful or not useful at all as "evidence". When you "have it now" and can see it, you'll have a better idea.
