3 years of ITR to show sustained income! Current contracts! Give what the CO was asking for (evidence of current sustained income!)

If I were in your shoes, I would submit:

> Income tax returns for 2007, 2008, and 2009.

> Income tax transcripts for 2007, 2008, and 2009.

> Contracts for 2010.

> Bank statements which show deposits for every month of 2010.

Or a letter from your bank, ‘on bank letterhead’ that shows the total deposits for the year. This is faster and easy just one item to submit no digging around for statements, or if lost trying to get new ones.

Be aware that bank letters are primarily used for documenting assets, not income. Businesses generaly deposit far more money in gross revenue than they have in "income" or "earnings". Business revenue minus expenses is "income". Bank letters do NOT substitute for tax returns when it comes to documenting "income".

Instead of thinking about "the best way," you need to think about "all of the ways." What I mean is you need to submit any and all evidence which shows current sustained income. It would help to provide copies of contracts backed up by bank statements, paycheck stubs, and anything else you can think of.

Yes, I would wait until you have the tax return to go with the letter. If he also has a contract, include that.

No disrespect intended.

Perhaps you over looked the conversation I was having with a member about "Bank Statements and Bank letter" It was not about a "substitute for tax returns". The need for ITR was made.

"Be aware that bank letters are primarily used for documenting assets"

I understand you know this, but let me throw this out there as conversation or information, to others. Assets "property" that is owned by a person or 'organization', can be included toward the support requirements. This is not to say it would be accepted at USEM level.

For those who are self employed :

One other thing to keep in mind (dependent on certain factors) They can pay themselves a monthly wage, this wage is not business revenue/income. This can be used for documenting income, along with the income, on 'business tax return'. A good accountant can advise you further on this.

See bold above.

A person can both own a business and be employed by the same business. In that case, that business provides a W2 form. W2 income is not "self employment" income. A person can have both employment income and business income or employment income and business loss. The business loss CAN and often DOES exceed the amount of employment income resulting in a negative "total income" on line 22. Business owners (proprieter, parter or S Corporation owners) use line 22 as their "income" for the affidavit of support. Using line 22 covers the contingencies. Consular officers are trained to understand this.
