You're right, I seem to have made up my mind. The people I'm leaning towards right now are Mitch Daniels and Bobby Jindal, if either one will run. There's a few others I like also. I really don't care if a person is socially conservative or not. That won't enter into my choice. I just want someone who will be fiscally conservative.

I don't think Obama knows at all how to fix our country or our economy. I think Palin doesn't either. However, I think Palin would be more likely to just let us each fix our own problems and run our own lives. I think I can support that idea.

Thats the thing, you can't just fix it all yourself. That just doesn't work on macro level problems. If you are interested in a fiscal conservative, then you won't see one in an election any time soon. Republicans spend just as much money as democrats do, they just choose to spend more on defense. For all this blustering about decreasing the budget and the deficit, nobody is willing to even touch anything that would have any impact (ie defense, medicare, or social security.

Mitch Daniels is my preferred candidate, he is a policy wonk, and a social moderate. But I could never vote for Bobby Jindal, i've read some of his writtings. He is good with policy, but his religious beliefs are scary.

Yeah, I kind of forgot about that with Jindal. But if people are willing to do like Daniels' said and forget the social issues and just work on the economic issues, I could support Jindal. I think most people just want the economy fixed.

However, I think you're wrong when you say nobody is willing to touch anything that would have any impact. I think Paul Ryan has been pretty honest with the things he's said. Of course, he's been pretty alone but at least I think he's being honest.

No, Paul Ryan has not been right about it. His ideas are to cut spending here and there, things that have nowhere near the impact on the federal deficit and budget as do defense, medicare, and social security. Anyone who says they are a deficit hawk but is unwilling to touch those three items is a deluded.

I would be willing to put the social aspect aside, if we lived in a secular society. Unfortunately, we don't, and I can't ignore the social policies that a candidate has. I just couldn't ever vote for someone who uses theology to justify cutting funding for science research.

I'm not sure if Ryan talked about defense; but I'm pretty sure he's talked about making changes to medicare and social security.
