Of the 470 Republicans polled, 51% said they wouldn’t support the former Alaska governor if she runs for president in 2012. That’s an 18-point jump from a similar poll taken two years ago after the last presidential election. That earlier poll, taken in December 2008, showed 67% of the respondents supporting a Palin presidential bid with only 33% saying they weren’t likely to support her.

In contrast, the numbers for two of the three other Republicans CNN used in its poll – former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee – remain largely unchanged from two years ago. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is down nine percentage points from December 2008, when 61% of Republicans said they’d support him for president.

Mr. Huckabee garnered the most support this year, with 67% of the respondents saying they’d back him (up from 65% two years earlier), followed by Mr. Gingrich at 54% (up from 52%) and Mr. Romney at 52%.

Those numbers aren't bad, you should see her approval rating with Alaska residents (33%). I still don't think that any of the supposed front runners will end up being the nomination. Palin isn't a serious candidate, she lacks the mental capacity for the job. Gingrich seems to be polling strong, but in a full blown campaign, the guy has far too many skeletons in his closet. Huckabee is intriguing. He almost won my support, that is until I saw a video of him announcing to a decidely evangelical crowd that "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

There are a lot of GOP potential candidates I would choose over Palin. I'm really not a Palin fan at all. Romney is much more qualified but he has that health care albatross to deal with.

However, if it came down to Palin vs. Obama, I would have to close my eyes, grit my teeth, and cast my vote for Palin. It would a much easier decision if she chose somebody like Paul Ryan as VP.

So your partisan political beliefs are so deeply entrenched that you would vote for a blatantly unqualified person simply because of party politics?

Perhaps you misread my post. I said I would not vote for the blatantly unqualified Obama. As so many did this last election.

He's quite a bit more qualified than Palin. She's barely qualified to run the drive thru at Wendy's let alone our country.

Good one.

However, Obama was in no way even close to being as qualified as McCain. So explain how he got elected?

And my actual reason for supporting Palin over Obama is pretty easy. I think Palin might be an awful President. Maybe even as bad as Obama. But I think it will be easier for our country to recover from a President who is too conservative than to recover from a President who is too liberal. So, if I have to pick between two bad choices, I'll choose the conservative bad choice.

Now why did anybody support Obama and why in the world would they support him a second time?

Who is qualified to be president before they actually are? You make your decision based on a candidates personal qualities and their ideas. Palin lacks the intellect to do the job, period. I wouldn't trust my 3 year old nephew to drive my car, I don't trust her to run the country. But as to whom I would vote for in 18 months? Hard to say. I haven't made up my mind yet, like you seem to have. However, I can say that I will look at the republicans and undoubtedly vote for one, so long as it isn't a social conservative.

You're right, I seem to have made up my mind. The people I'm leaning towards right now are Mitch Daniels and Bobby Jindal, if either one will run. There's a few others I like also. I really don't care if a person is socially conservative or not. That won't enter into my choice. I just want someone who will be fiscally conservative.

I don't think Obama knows at all how to fix our country or our economy. I think Palin doesn't either. However, I think Palin would be more likely to just let us each fix our own problems and run our own lives. I think I can support that idea.
