Hello,

My fiancee is coming here in March and I am hoping after she gets settled in we can find some Pinay friends for her in the area. We will actually be living in Northern Delaware, but its a short drive to Philadelphia. I am worried she will become homesick if she can't find some nice Pinay friends in the area. I've discussed it with her and she says she will be fine, but how can one really know when they have never been away from their homeland before?

It would also be great to talk to someone in the area who knows where we can get some Filipino food locally.

Thanks in advance!

I agree with the statement above..you can find alot of Filipinos everywhere in the states...we also have Seafood City here in California which is good coz I cook alot and my husband loves Filipino foods..somehow, it makes me at home & happy to see a Filipino mall and other fellow Filipinos...when it comes to finding other Filipinos to befriend, it's also a good thing for her to have Filipino friends but just be cautious of to whom she will befriend with..you can't trust anyone, even her fellow Filipinos, which sometimes it's better for her not to have one(I'm not being ruse but you know what I mean)....make her feel comfortable & at home..the feeling that she will have whenever she sees she is very welcome & accepted in your family will make her more happy...if you are a busy person, make sure you spend time with her coz your company and presence is more important to her than anything else..as of now, I still don't have Filipino friends within our area but I don't feel homesick at all coz my husband is always there for me..God bless you both & wishing that she have a safe flight going here...Happy Holidays!!

There are Filipino American organizations all over the USA.

Here is a link to a national organization: http://www.naffaa.org/main/

I don't know anything about them. It seems that not to many of the local groups are listed on their web site.

Here is a link you can search by state: http://www.thefilipino.com/

That's only about an hour's drive :) Maybe we can all meet one day for coffee or dinner somewhere in the middle? Good luck! My fiancee is doing her medical in 1 week and scheduled for her interview on the Jan 21. She won't be here until Late march though because we want her to finish her training first. The near 2 year wait is killing us!

That's awesome I'm sure it will all work out just fine. I am currently waiting for my visa to arrive, but I plan to get to the US around late Feb or early march coz our wedding is still set for April 2nd. It would be nice to be connect especially since we will be going through AOS pretty much at the same time so we can share info and help each other out :)
