So tell me, how does the fact that the IDF was fighting a Guerilla army make the civilian deaths their fault?

Remember a few things, The UN had a resolution that was suppost to disband the Hezbos after the last war. They were not disbanded and were not suppost to be there. If there were no Hezbos there would have not been this last war. Without the war there would not have been civilian deaths. So who has blood on their hands???

I've provided my views on this on other threads. I agree with the Amnesty International report published the other week. The sheer scale of the destruction, loss of civilian life, not to mention the million or so displaced people makes the ethical justification for destroying alleged military targets regardless of civilian residences and infrastructure extremely shaky.

The IDF blew up all major transport links in Southern Lebanon, then dropped leaflets insisting that people living in a densely populated area leave the area the region (though no mention of where) or they will risk being blown up, but not to use cars (because any vehicle will be targetted and destroyed by airstrike). While Hezbollah is certainly to blame for creating this situation to begin with, destroying every means of mass transportation and denying people the ability to leave the region, then turning round and blaming the other side for the carnage that results seems rather questionable to me.

As far as I know, the military action hasn't, thus far at least, resulted in their release...
