quick question about POE

morning:)

I'm trying to fill out the i-485 so we can send in our AOS package and I just have a quick question. My hubby flew into JFK from Shannon, Ireland and he went through immigration when he was still in Ireland. Does that mean that I put Shannon as his POE or would it still be New York? I'm leaning towards Shannon but I just want to make sure.

Thanks for any help in advance:)

Shannon isn't appart of the U.S. And isn't a POE to the USA... So New York.

thank you. The only reason I was confused is that Dublin is listed as a POE to the US now since they have full immigration services there and they dont see any immigration officers once they land in the US. Thanks for the clarification:)

I can see why it might be questionable. Dublin/Shannon are staffed with US customs/border... They are pre clarence areas but not the port of entry to the usa.... A gateway it seems.

Are you guys sure about this? I asked the same question a while back as I entered through Toronto Pearson Airport Pre-Clearance. Everyone said to put "Toronto Pearson Airport Pre-Clearance" as my POE, which I did.

One of the reason the US has pre-clearance facilities is so that planes originating in foreign countries can land at non-POE airports (those without US immigration facilities). The theory is that it is easier for them to staff one airport (ie Toronto) than many domestic airports, many with limited foreign traffic.

I would suggest looking at your husband's passport/I-94 stamp. What POE code is used? It should be 3 letters.

Here's some more info in Pre-Clearance facilities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_border_preclearance

Zooch... I AGREE the POE IS the port that "accepted" the traveller.
