How long for Interview after AOS filing?

Hi, I'm on a F1 at grad school. I filed my AOS the first days of October and got my Biometrics on the 29 in Raleigh, NC. How long is the waiting time for the interview? No sign of the interview notice yet and i desperately need my gc by january in order to accept a full grant and stipend from NCSU. Is there any way i could speed up the process given my situation?I would appreciate any comments from October filers.

Unfortunately, there's really no way to predict when AOS will be completed. My wife and I were fortunate, as hers came through exactly 90 days from the time we sent in our packet (see our timeline below). It's pretty dependent on how busy your local USCIS office is and what their schedule is like. I would look through timelines of VJ'ers who adjusted status from the Raleigh, NC, office to try to get an idea of when to expect things to happen. Still, since every case is different, you can't expect any guarantees!

Thank you for your response. It seems that you saved a lot of time by doing the biometrics walk in. My walk in attempt was not successful so I think I lost like a month of precious time there. I hope other Raleigh October filers can share their experiences in this post.

As AJ said, you never know when you will have your appointments - the local offices that do your biometrics, interviews are having a designated amount of employees working on the papers and a number of others conducting interviews, taking your fingerprints etc. - plus, the workload differs, too. So there is really no standard time when what applicant receives their notices or appointment letters.

My 485 and my wife's 130 haven't been touched much at all, still are shown as "initial review" and I only believe that changes happen when I have an envelope in my mailbox.

Absolutely right! Envelopes in the box are the only guarantees of anything. Touches on the website are seriously overrated. My wife's I-130 is still in "Initial Review", even though we received the I-130 approval letter and are finished with the AOS process.

I don't think you lost time by not doing a biometrics walk-in. Doing a walk-in might speed up getting your EAD, but when you get the interview letter is still based on how backed up the office is (just like when you get the biometrics letter), from what I've seen. My field office (DC) has been pretty backed up, and we waited 2 months for biometrics, and did a walk-in once we got the letter. EAD was approved the same day, but our interview is for the same time as other couples right here on VJ who had the same scheduled biometrics day and did not attempt a walk-in. Good luck, definitely look through timelines from others who have filed through your office lately.
