I've FINALLY received my biometrics after a wait of month and a half ..... I wanted to ask you guys if anyone of you've gone for WALK IN BIOMETRICS .... what is the procedure for it, and is it worth trying ??

I went on the day I was suppose to, but only because the office is pretty far from where I live and didn't want to risk being denied and having made a trip for no reason.

The procedure is to show up with your biometric appointment letter and I.D. and ask them if you can do your biometrics early. It's worth doing it if you have nothing to lose. If you live close by, or if you will be in the area anyway, I'd give it a try. We live 2-3 hours away from that office, so we didn't want to risk it, but had the office been closer, I would have given it a try.

Good luck! :)

If it's not inconvenient for you, I'd say definitely try as it could save you a couple of weeks. Just bring your letter and ID (follow the instructions on the letter). Unless you need a translator they probably won't allow anyone else in with you so there's no need to bring your SO.

I tried to walk-in in Santa Ana, California and was denied by a security guard. The office is less than a half hour away from my home so for me it was worth trying.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Walk in and take a try, you have nothing to loose. It all depends on the mood of the officals. Many have tries numerous times and suceeded.

Many offices will allow walk-ins with the letter and a good reason why you cannot make the original appointment date (conflicting schedules, away on travel, other appointments, etc.). Some offices don't allow it under any circumstances and state that if you can't make the scheduled appointment then you need to request a new scheduled date. It very much depends on your local office. You could give it a try, and then if denied, come back on the scheduled date. If you honestly can't make the scheduled date due to a conflict, then try the walk-in route early enough that you still have time to send off the request for the new appointment before the date of the scheduled biometrics.

Biometrics are easy - you go through security, show them your letter and identification, fill out a questionnaire, hand it in at a central desk, receive a number, wait until your number is called then go and have your photo and fingerprints taken digitally. In most cases you are in and out in about half an hour. You are also not allowed to bring much in with you for the appointment - the Atlanta ASC won't even allow a purse so take the bare minimum with you to the office (lock the rest in your car).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Try searching for your local office on VJ posts to see what other people have experienced. We did this with our office and found that biometric walk-ins were very easy. They asked to see the letter, didn't even look at the date, and let us in.
