JUST bring his passport which would include the endorsed visa. You can bring the birth certificate but won't be required.

I brought my filled in application, ( SSN Application), my passport and my birth certificate. In fact the agent I dealt with took a photocopy of it. I had my card 6 days later. Good luck!

Just bring only his passport and fill up the application form over there or you can print it from their website.But make sure you Visit SSA office after 1 week of his POE.Because his record will be available in their database after 1 week.

well now - my parents entered atlanta (poe) on 12/19 (sunday) and I took them to the social security office the next day.. with their passports... They took their birth certificates however --> not needed. They were able/allowed to apply for their original social security numbers.. so why wait a week or more...? They will only be here for 2 weeks (until jan. 3, 2011) no time to wait.

Glad it worked so quickly for them. :)

It may depend on the particular protocol at your local office. The office I used was very clear on the fact that they would only process the application if it was three weeks past POE. Luckily for me I was there three weeks to the day! I was also asked for my birth certificate in addition to my passport and application. In fact the agent took a photocopy of my birth certificate for their records.

I suppose it is no surprise there is no consistency when dealing with the government. :lol:

You do not need to do anything for greencard except wait. You should receive a welcome letter about a month after POE and the next week you will receive the greencard.

07/07/09 : Married

08/18/09: I-130 Sent to Chicago

08/20/09: I-130 Received by USCIS

08/25/09: NOA1

09/22/09: NOA2

10/05/09: Received case# and gave emails

10/07/09: Received DS-3032 and AOS email

10/09/09: Sent DS-3032 email to optin electronic filing

10/15/09: Paid both AOS & IV fees

10/16/09: Received email electronic filing accepted

10/18/09: Sent AOS via email

10/23/09: Received email that AOS was accepted and waiting for IV

10/27/09: Sent IV via email

11/10/09: Signon to payment failure

11/19/09: Received email for interview - December 14th

As dan_ling posted you should receive a Welcome Letter 2-4 weeks after your POE. That will have a receipt number that you can use to track your green card production on the USCIS site. If you register for email notification you will receive an email when it is in production and the green card should arrive shortly after that. As you can see from my timeline I received mine about a month after my POE but it could take a bit longer depending on how quickly your information is transferred into the sysytem from your POE. Good luck!
