7% of a big number is still a big number.

Yet, in the West, you're more likely to be killed by a Christian.

It's not ok, but it doesn't kill them either. All religions are evil, but some are more evil than others.

More evil, no. Evil in different ways, perhaps. Christianity had a several years head start on evil, using your logic.

In the West, are you more likely to be killed in the name of Jesus by a religious

Christian fanatic, or in the name of Allah by a religious Muslim fanatic?

Did Timothy McVey say "these infidels need to be killed in the name of Jesus"?

Would American Christians sit idly by and allow people to be killed in the name of Jesus?

from matthew-

17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

that sounds like a pretty compulsive argument against paul's made-up supersessionism. christianity was never meant to be a free-for-all, let's stop circumcising and start eating bacon and sturgeon party. Modern Jews are offended by the traditional Christian belief in supersessionism,[45] and some historians see supersessionism as one source of anti-semitism in western culture.[46]http://en.wikipedia....Supersessionism

if anything, it seems as though the law became even stricter with Jesus.

21 "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'You shall not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, 'Raca,' is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

27 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery. 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

these sins are so bad that self-mutilation is advised to prevent them from happening in the first place. it goes without saying that if they occur anyways, punitive action is required.

I think you weaken your argument by saying it goes without saying, The punishment of going to hell is mentioned. That's a pretty severe punishment. Couldn't you find an earthly punishment spelled out somewhere? I've already lost one hand to this madness and it makes it really hard to type.

It's lost on me the concern about what someone says when they kill. Dead is dead, and worrying about the professed religion of the killer is more than a little ridiculous. The probability that I am more likely to be murdered by a Christian should make me curse Christianity? I find that idea easy to resist.

You don't think it matters why people do the things they do?

The probability that I am more likely to be murdered by a Christian should make me curse Christianity?

If there was a radical branch of Christianity which polluted young impressionable minds

with propaganda, words of intolerance and hatred, and caused some of its followers

to go out and commit atrocious acts in the name of Jesus... yes, it's something we'd

want to address.

We live in a predominately Christian country where Christians kill every day. I don't see the difference between people killing and not citing Jesus and people who kill while citing Jesus. When terrorists commit acts of violence in the name of Allah, to me, that's just a gimmick. And, that happens less often than killings in no one's name.

you missed the point completely. read the first passage again, where it's laid out that nothing changes in the original law, handed down to the earlier prophets, where earthly punishments are clearly outlined. see deuteronomy, etc. those laws still stand.

I didnt miss your point, and I dont disagree with it. but to say "it goes without saying" is implying that it hasn't been said.

Im not a bible scholar and dont care to be.

Im guessing you were motivated to say it because the new testament doesnt spell out the punishment the way the old testament does.

Im guessing that ripping out your own eye out and cutting off your own hand must be the worst the new testament has to offer.

You start out with your strongest argument.

then you move to quotes of debatable meaning ( it seems to me, the big threat is going to hell)

then end with "it goes without saying"

It would be more effective to quote the punishments spelled out in the old testament and then end with your first quote saying nothing has changed.
