Taxes And The Top Percentile Myth

I think people earning over $65,000 should pay a flat %50 tax rate

those earning below $55,000 should pay a flat %30 tax rate

and those earning between 55,000 and 65,000 should pay no tax, in order to stimulate the economy

And I think he's joking, right? I mean, under this scenario I would take home more money if I made less - not as a % but in actual dollars.

I think your perspective is kind of biased. The median household income in this country is still under $50K.

Entry level college grads get starting salaries in the 60s these days. Over a decade ago when I graduated it was in the 50s. We're not talking about medians here, I'm describing what a significant portion of the 55-65 "backbone" looks like.

Actually all college grads should pay a %20 surtax

You get the monumentally stupid award for the day.

I am just glad to finally have that crown off my head.

You're also just looking at your own field. Entry level in my field is still only 50's. And don't forget about the people who majored in useless things - they're lucky to make over $30K working in a call center or doing clerical work. It will take them 15 years to start making over $55K.

The most significant portion of this so-called backbone probably doesn't have a college degree.

Most PhDs in biomedical research make $35-45K in their entry level academic positions, and work 60 hour weeks for this money.

I guess we majored in useless things
