hey guys, I and my fiancee has been US for almost a year now. things has gotten more serious than ever before. I proposed to her and we actually plan on getting married here in the philippines. btw, i am the filipino citizen and my fiancee is the USC. as of now, there has a problem. her mom who was supposed to be coming with her this february was up for a presentation for the company where her mom is working. and preparing for it takes months and months and they suddenly cannot go on leave during the preparation. that was an order from the Boss of the company. so her mom apologized to us that she really cannot make it. although, my fiancee's brother will be coming with her. but i feel like, her mom of all people should witness it. not that it matters on immigration rules whatsoever. its just that. her mom is a very important person for both of us. and even if her come told us, that it is okay if shes not going to witness it and walk her in the aisle, but to me, i feel like its unfair on her moms part. that is why, i am now confuse about getting married this february. its not that i dont like her being walk by her brother, but its her mom. no one can replace a mother on her wedding day. i hope u understand what i mean. whats even more crappy is that, we have atleast prepard everythign for the wedding, atleast about 70% of it. paid everything for the wedding.. though, it would be fine to me to cancel the wedding and have it in the USA and go for k1. but my another problem is my family.lol. i cant bring them all in the states for the wedding. it will be very expensive. i know atleast the basic of k1 and cr2 visas. and i know that k1 is faster than cr2. though much more expensive. but to me, right now, its not all about which is faster or slower. i need help on what should i supposed to do. i know deep in my heart, her mom wants to be with us on the wedding day. its just that she cant because of her work.. she actually talk to her superior, but then, it wasnt successful.

so here are my questions:

id like to ask your suggestion, based on what i wrote above, on what do u think is the most sensible and rational thing to do.?

next is, if i will pursue on k1 visa, do u think, it would be easier for my parents, (mom and dad are only their 50's) to get a tourist visa for my wedding? although i know the grounds for admissibility of tourist visa.. i just wanna know that if, theyre going to apply for tourist visa to attend to my wedding, would that be possible? or is there anykind of visa that will allow parents to attend a wedding?>lol

another question is, do you think, I will be so unfair to her mom if we will go on with the wedding without her presence?

i badly need your help guys...

merry christmas..

I think it doesnt matter on what SHOULD happen.

The question to ask, is; is her mum happy not coming. Is she okay with the fact that her mum is not coming. Does SHE want to postpone the wedding, or go ahead.

If shes fine with it, and the mums fine with it, id say go ahead - get married!

You mean CR-1 not CR-2.

well, before the bad news came, her mom was so damn excited about the wedding. and even if shes ok with it, I knew, she really wanted to attend the wedding. knowing that, it was even her so actually book the ticket and help out on the entourage and the wedding details. her mom said, its okay if shes not there, because, she cant do something about it. , but I somehow, felt that, she just said that shes fine with it because she doesnt wanna ruin the wedding. my fiancee is totally on the same boat with me. confused. i am writing this in behalf of her as well.lol.

Its really gonna be a tough personal choice.

How important is it for you that her mother is there. Worth changing everything for? Can you not just postpone for a few months or even weeks?

her mother is working for a multi national company , and that project will take 8 months of preparation. my fiancee had her leave approved a year ago. thats how demanding is her job that getting a leave should be scheduled atleast 6 months to a year.

it is indeed very important to her and to me that her mom is there on our wedding day. given that circumstances, if were going to cancel the wedding, the other problem will be, I have sent the invitation to all our friends and relatives. and I cannot imagine how rude or embarrassing it will be if we're going to cancel the wedding. beleive me guys, right at this moment in time that i am typing these letters, i have consumed a bottle of wine, and still need more.lol.

The choice of the mom being there seems to be out of mom's hands. If mom is ok with it and daughter is I would continue. The next decision has to be yours.

As for the tourist visa for your parents. It does not matter the reason for coming to the US, the requirements are the same and are stringent.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Oh no! it really is a tough situation to be in.

What day is your wedding on?

ie, if its on a Sat, she flies out Fri night and leaves Sun. Not ideal, but at least shes there...

our wedding will be on february 14,. we rented the whole island for the wedding. its a secluded island here in my country. its a sunset beach wedding.

My two cents: Have the wedding as planned, after all, it is already planned. A wedding is indeed important for the parents of both bride and groom, but most of all it is for you and her. The way i think of it the wedding is for you two and the reception is for the whole family. Why not have a second reception in the USA later on so her mother and all of her other relatives and friends can participate too.

That is my wife and my plans too, we both have big families, for many reasons we had the wedding in indonesia and later when she gets here we will have a second reception here so that my grandparents uncles etc.. can be a part of our union as well.

Either way, tough situation but lucky if it is your only hardship. i wish you well and im sure your fiance's mother will understand and wouldn't want to be the cause of delaying your wedding.

oh man thats a tough one. my husband and i was in that same situation last year. aug 2009 my fiance, robby, (which is my husband now) and i planned on getting married in the Philippines. my mom's side of the family all lived in the states. my family in the states couldn't come to the philippines to attend the wedding. i thought about it long and hard. even if my dad's side of the family were all in the phlippines and we had a lot of friends supporting us, i couldn't go through it WITHOUT my mom there. that was just a personal choice i had to make. my husband was totally ok with it because he wanted my mom to be with us on our wedding day. good thing we never sent out the invitations. after a year, (aug2010) my husband and i finally got married... it made that day EXTRA special because my mom, my brother, my grandparents was a part of it :) my mom and grandfather almost didn't make it cuz their flight was delayed. they arrive in manila the morning of our wedding. oh by the way my parents are divorce. my dad didnt attend the wedding nor walked me down the isle cuz his 2nd wife got all jealous and he didn't want my dad seeing my BEAUTIFUL mom. she's crazy. they have 5 kids and she's still super jealous of my mom. i still cant believe my dad would do that to me :( any who, my brother here in the states and my half brother from my dad's side walked me 3/4 down the isle to my mom. and my mom walked me to Robby..i think robby was happier than me that my mom made it to our wedding. he knew how important it was to me and he was just glad that my mom was there so i can be happy

if it means a lot to u that your fiance's mom is there then cancel the wedding. i know your fiance would LOVE for her mom to walk her down the isle. dont worry if you've already sent out the invitations. its not about them. its about what you both want. this is a special day, celebrate it with the people you love. since u've already planned the wedding, c if u can cancel it. if not, ya'll can still have the reception, like an engagement party. send out new invitations, be creative with it..

good luck with everything. what would truly make u both happy?

You can only apply for a CR-2 if your married longer than 2 years.

So you will have to file on a CR-1 if your married there and it

less than 2 years since you married.

A K-1 is if you have visisted her there in the last 2 years and than

come back and to start a K-1 to be married in USA later after K-1 process

Good Luck

ENOUGH already. A CR2 visa is for the child of a CR1 visa holder or applicant. IR1 is the spouse visa for people married more than two years. Please learn the process and terminology before trying to help people. Your heart is in the right place but your head is elsewhere.
