i've spent a little time in hanoi on my first trip back in '04 and also ha long bay and passed through noi bai this last time. hanoi is fine, i just don't like the people there. the southerners view the northern mass as more calculating, 2-faced, and ruthless. from my experience interacting with them i'd tend to agree.

of course as it works out my fiancee is northern :bonk: ...thanh hoa to be specific. saw a sign in HCM recently when i was there, "Accepting work resumes, Thanh Hoa people need not apply" :) Hai Phong and Thanh Hoa people have bad reps.

My wife Lien was also born and raised in Hanoi but after spending 3 years in HCMC she loved it here, both the weather and people. I can understand that.

I tend to feel the same way about most of the people we have run into in HCMC outside of my work at the University... Thieves and scam artists... on Thuys first trip to HCMC she was almost mugged standing right next to me... Thuys mother fears for our lives every time we have to go to HCMC and that is a fairly common perception....

Looking at things in their totality, there are bad people everywhere we go, including here in the US... I dont tend to bash anyone there and usually avoid making any posts that would shed a negative light on any group of people, but I do love HaNoi and have a home there so it would be disrepsectful of me to not respond to the bolded above.

agreed that there's bad people everywhere, and i usually don't like to lump people together and stereotype. however that's the general feeling amongst the vietnamese people. i'm actually being polite with what i said. maybe i have a biased southern pov, but my mother's side is "bac ky 1954" and they've always expressed how glad they were to have migrated south.

i have a house up north also :(
