; Aaron & I got our NOA1 on October 28th  .. I was soooo happy  , I danced  , screamed and I had a smile on my face from ear to ear :D ...

Then, I was reading what the hard copy said and something caught my eyes..

My place of birth: UN-freakin'-KNOWN!

Rrrrright .. I don't know who received our case, but he/she sure didn't read our I-127f carefully from the start <_<. It says "the NETHERLANDS" (also that big and for 7 times..)

Ok Ok Ok.. .. what should I do now? Does anybody else have the same situation going on, and what should I do in order to make that lovely mr/ms/mrs change my place of birth :bonk: ...

Your help would be very very very appreciated!!

I know this was happening a lot this year, and it really probably is nothing. However, I called and had them correct it! Ok, ok, I was kind of just feeling around for a "touch," but it made me feel better! Plus, I ended up getting approved really fast...maybe it somehow got the box I was in moved to right where it needed to be ;-).

Not sure if speculation is allowed here...but one possible cause for "Unknown" is: If the Place of Birth does but fit in Part B, Item 3a (Form I-129F)...it may not be immediately clear where the beneficiary was actually born. When the info does not fit, the information for Part B, #3a should be added to a separate continuation sheet. I doubt the continuation sheet is actually read at NOA1....so maybe they put "Unknown" in NOA1 until the petition package is fully evaluated. I'd also imagine abbreviations for State/Country could also cause "Unknown" to be put on NOA1.

As I said...this is just my speculation...but it is NOT speculation that the same thing just happened to me this week! I received the NOA1 hard copy in the mail yesterday. My fiancee's place of birth was cut off by the limited field for data entry on the I-129F...so I added the complete State/Country as Part B, Item 3a in a continuation document. Just saying here that if I looked at the first page of my own I-129F...I would have to put "Unknown" myself...until the continuation sheet is read.

I had the same situation, and rather than wait and have an issue later on I called and explained the situation. They corrected it and sent out a new NOA1. I doubt that it would have caused a problem, but I didn't want to risk it. If you can tolerate the 45-60 minutes on the phone, it's a pretty simple fix.

Well we had the same issue with our packet, they sent us the packet saying that we were missing address info, the fact is that on the state/country field I put down only my state because there was no room left for the country thinking that they would know that Rio de Janeiro is in Brazil, but I guess they didn't like it, so we just corrected what they stated on the letter and sent it back to them the next day.

Ours also says unknown...I think whoever has been processing them is just lazy to look it up...quite a few peeps have had this on the NOA1 forms this year!

don't worry!

Actually I also got a NOA1 with 'Unknown' for my fiance' county of birth. I received the notice on a Saturday and called them from work on Monday and mentioned about his country of orgin being unknown told the lady that his birth place is not unknown but he was born in Norway and I could verify it as I have a copy of his birth certificate. When I got back home I did recheck his info on the form and for country ethnicity he put Norwegian. Guess some people do not know that Norwegians are born in Norway.. hehe - anyway if I get a RFE for this I am prepared with a copy of his birth certificate.

But, I pretty much figure for a RFE because those blasted lines are not big enough to put where my divorce was filed and I forgot to hand write it out even though they do have a copy of my divorce decree and 'where' it was filed and all the other information. So, I am prepared for a RFE but it would be nice if everything went though without a problem.
