My wife who is a Ukrainian citizen living in the US told me about a baby fund in Ukraine to which citizens pay a portion of their wages. When you have a baby, the government pays the mother the equivalent of about $3000. She told me they recently increased the money as well. My question is if my wife is still eligible for the money even though she had the baby here and is living here but a citizen of Ukraine.

Same thing in Russia. Little Leonid has a fund stuffed by the government but he must be a resident to tap into it.

Could it be a form of "supplemental income" while on maternity leave? In Romania, mothers receive 800 lei (about 350 USD) for as long as they're on maternity leave, which was capped at two years (recently its been reduced to 1 year). Many mothers now have two-three children born aobut 2 years apart....so there is truth in what slim says. ;) In any case its just for citizens residing in the country, not available to those in the diaspora.

Call and ask. I am sure the government of Ukraine will be very anxious to get her check in the mail for her US citizen child to the United States as soon as possible.

Mothers everywhere must really love you slim!

My mother loves me and that's all that really matters.
