Then you shouldn't have made a claim!

In all seriousness though, that's why insurers that offer 'accident forgiveness' are some of the best ones out there. Even though it's not your fault, the moment you make a claim, then you are considered a 'risk.'

Well, why shouldn't I have made a claim??? Isn't that why I had an insurance in the first place? Otherwise I would just be forking out money for nothing to insurance companies.

No matter how you spin this, you do end up paying more if you end up getting into a fender bender with an unisured motorist. And even if you don't get into an accident, a part of your insurance premium goes to subsidize the cost of an uninsured motorist (kinda like hospitals charing you more to make up for the cost of treating someone who didnt have enough money to pay for it).

When I was a senior in college, an insured (legal USC) driver hit my car. My rates went up the next year even though the accident was not my fault, and my dad's rates went up too because I was under his policy when I made the claim. Also, I had to pay for the deductible whereas the guy who hit me paid nothing and he just had a scratch on his front bumper :ranting:

i'd say you had a crappy insurance company. it all should have been claimed against his insurance, including your deductible.

yes, the deductible should have been covered by the other guy's insurance. but your rates will go up even if you're not at fault in an accident, in many states at least. some states prohibit it.
