BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Hours after British troops handed over a military base to Iraqi forces, hundreds of Iraqis -- some with their faces covered and wielding guns -- looted it, police and army officials told CNN Friday.

The base, Abu Camp Naji, is in the southern city of Amara in Maysan province.

The looters took materials such as doors, window frames, corrugated roofing and metal pipes and loaded them onto trucks.

Some news reports said the base was looted again Friday, but CNN could not confirm that.

More than 1,000 British troops had been based at the camp.

Clashes damage mosque

U.S. forces fired tank rounds at a mosque in Ramadi after militants inside attacked them on Friday, the most important Muslim prayer day of the week, the U.S. military said. One soldier was reported slightly wounded.

The military said that the attack from the Al Qadir Al Kilami mosque involved small arms and machine gun fire, rocket propelled grenades, hand grenades and a bomb attack.

The mosque's minaret and dome were seriously damaged.

The wounded soldier returned to duty, and it was not immediately known whether there were other casualties.

To the east, in Baquba, attackers shot and killed six people in five separate incidents Friday, police told CNN.

Four others were wounded, police added.

CNN's Mohammed Tawfeeq contributed to this report.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
