Form I-864 - Your household size

Hello everybody. The time has come for me to adjust status

I am now married and my husband should fill in this form. On part 21. C. is reads "If you are currently married , enter "1" for your spouse" but that would bring the total to 3 when really he's only supporting himself and me.

Can you please let me know what I should put in there?

Just put "1" under A since your husband is sponsoring you and that's it. Under C for spouse leave it blank since your husband is sponsoring you, the spouse, and you can't count anyone twice. C only applies to those that are not sponsoring a spouse, but have one. I know it might seem weird, but that's how it's done.

Remember that a lot of those forms are not exclusive to spousal visa/ adjustment applicants. Some people, as you'll see if you read the instructions thoroughly, are sponsoring employees, relatives or even friends. For example, my mother in law is a co-sponsor for us. She's married so counted her husband, she's sponsoring 2 of us, so her household size count was 4. On hubby's form, he counted only 3.
