Hello all -

I haven't been on here in some time and am so thrilled to see all the new members representing TKY and this new thread. I just want to say, having been there, hang in there because this is such a process, especially for those who can not be together while awaiting the all important decision. Some recipients have never lived or travelled in the U S.

Be realistic. The REAL journey begins after a visa is granted. This VJ is not a fairy tale with a happily ever after. I've watched so many couples struggle the first couple years. Adjusting to the U S. Adjusting to each other. Adjusting to family, habits, religious and cultural ways. Sadly, some couples did not make it. You won't many of these failures sharing that part of their story on V J.

But there are those who do make it. I'm proud to say my S O and I are counted in the numbers. We've been married 8 y rs this year. Best friends. We've a beautiful daughter who is turning five. A successful marriage requires ongoing work, regardless if immigration is an aspect of the equation. Marriage evolves much as an individual does through out life. We've had our fair share of ups and downs, sometimes it gets really tough. It's Life. For us, it is love and more so the commitment to each other, to our marriage. Appreciation and Respect our differences. Focus on the many things that we have in common that brought us together in the first place.

BTW, my S O has been a citizen for six years now. star_smile.gif

Congrats & Best of luck to everyone.

Insallah. rose.gif

Wow,l cannot believe a fight was started over "colloquial English" terms....if you do not understand them and get really offended over them when the meaning is really harmless, I can tell you will have a difficult time in this country....wow.

Here is a site on the saying:

http://www.omniglot.com/language/idioms/flyingpigs.php

you can even click "Turkish" down below and find a similar saying in Turkish.....it means something that is unlikely to happen..

If I lived in Turkey and didn't completely understand some slang sayings, I would not get really mad about it UNLESS I totally understood it from another Turk. You who got offended should act accordingly or you will come upon a lot of misunderstandings. I hardly come in here anymore because I am so busy with my babies, but was disheartened to see this silliness. It has ZERO to do with Muslims or religion or pigs or flying.....(sigh)

Merhaba Ameriturks!

Long time no see. Work has kept both Ky and I very busy these days. I love all the great news around here! So I believe congratulations are in order.

It feels incredible to wake up to this man every day. I go home every day for lunch, and seeing his face smiling and waiting for me is unbelievable. I have to keep reminding myself that this is real. We're finally together. And Tolga is a VERY clean man. lol. He has our home immaculate and makes the best Turkish dishes. I am so lucky. The wedding is in 6 weeks! We're so excited.

Also, Tolga read your message and said thank you so much. You are so kind. The VJ folks we have met have been great and so helpful. It has taken the pain out of visa filing. :)

Tolga and Sabrina: Thank you for inviting Ky and I to your wedding! Loved the invitation and your wedding pics are beautiful. ...you know my favourites of you two! So I can't wait to hear the news when you two announce that there's going to be a new addition to the fam! xoxoxo Love you two!!

Merhaba arkadaslar! I haven't posted or been on here in a long time, but I wanted to say that our Visa Journey is OVER!!!

My husband took his citizenship oath last week and we are thrilled to be done with USCIS! Woohoo!!!

It has been a long road since we first decided to apply (we were both living and working in Istanbul) and moved to the US right when the economy took a nosedive at the end of 2008. It took him a year to find work, but he focused on taking IT classes, doing an internship at Oracle, and has been happily employed with a great tech company for the past 2 years. Of course, we've had our ups and downs and it hasn't been easy, but seeing him take that citizenship oath was inspiring and meant a lot for both of us.

It was not easy, but it has been worth it.

If you're just starting or in the middle of your visa process, hang in there!

Hello everyone! I am an american living in Istanbul currently with my husband and his family :)

I'm trying to learn Turkish and I have found a great book for anyone else looking for a helpful quick way to learn!

Its called "MODERN TURKISH" by B. Orhan Dogan, and ITS SOOOO HELPFUL!

It gives in depth explanations on everything, and is great for someone trying to get the basics down in a short time!

(also comes with audio CD) :)

Good Luck to you all :)

Hello,Tigerlily!!

Long time, no see lol I think many of us original peeps are not on here anymore, but I am friends with Tanya, Wendy and Filiz on Facebook. Many of the people who started this particular group don't seem to be on here anymore either and/or were booted. That is so awesome to live in Istanbul! I am so excited for you!!

Wait, OMG this sin't the original Tigerlily from the other group hahahaha. My bad hehe. Anyhow, I think it's really cool you live with hubby in Istanbul. Thanks for the tip on the book. We will be taking our kids to see his family first time next year, so I need to brush up, so that's great. How are you liking it?

Hi everybody,

I am new to this group as well. I am the beneficiary-Turkish-, and my fiance is in the U.S. now. Actually, I was living in the U.S. since 2005 (first F1 then H1B), but I had to return last year since my work permit ended. My fiancee and I started the K1 process this February, and we are waiting now. I am hoping to re-unite with him hopefully this fall. In this process, I am the worried one whereas he is so calm. Sometimes, that gets on my nervessmile.png According to him, we have been together for 7 years, so why worry...Anyway, just wanted to say hi and good luck to everybody

Is anyone still active in this thread ?

I have a Turkish Airline problem.

I want to use my miles to book a flight from Ercan (Lefkosa, Cyprus) to Chicago and pay online or over the phone.
I was told that before boarding my fiance would be asked to present the credit card the trip was paid with for verification purposes.

Obviously he doesn't have the CC and it is here with me with my name on it.

Has anyone been through this and how did you verify the card?

Problem is there is no TA office or ticket counter at any airport near me to verify the card in person like they tell me to do so

he wouldn't have to be hassled and the nearest would require a 10 hr round car trip which would be ridiculous.

I may as well walk to Cyprus and we walk back home.
I have talked to numerous supervisers and agents and get a different story every time.
TA is extremely ignorant with issues such as this and I have been running in circles for days with endless hours on the phone with this.

Spoiler

Let me reactivate this thread. I started studying Turkish for fun in college and I ended up really loving it. I then became a Muslim in college too and met the man who would now become my fiance. We talked about getting married and I finally met him in person in February 2012. We got engaged and applied for the K-1 in September 2014.
