So you support keeping your children in prison, or some sort of police state under constant supervision? If a kid is determined enough, I doubt your technical expertise would be able to stop them.

I can control every last bit of content that comes onto my computer. I can restrict any user that I want pretty easily. It's not hard at all actually.

Outside of laziness, there's really no excuse for setting up proper parental controls.

Paul, you could put whatever you want on your computer, the bottom line is that kids are a lot smarter than you think and my 13 year old cousin could bypass anything you put in front of him.

No offense, but I hardly think my cousin is some prodigy. He just knows easy it is to bypass parental controls. I find it odd that you're willing to place oversight into the hands of software companies, yet balk at any sort of government intervention on the matter.

You'd be surprised about how much more "common" things are than many want to realize. Everyone has things that "turn them on" in different ways than others. Being able to explore those and without shame is what keeps people sane.

This is a different issue, and not one that works in porn's favour. What I am talking about is the systematic denigration of gender equality in porn narrative, and in most cases where it goes further - to the point of abuse. This is not something we might so glibly dismiss as a fetish or "turn on". You might as well label the widespread oppression of women as an acceptable natural impulse.

The time of porn as the great sexual emancipator, freeing our libidos from stuffy Victorian oppression, has long passed. It works now to the opposite effect - forcing into the mainstream an image of intercourse measured in duration, ####### length, ####### size, quantity of #######, and the decibel level of the female orgasm.

Rather than liberating us to pursue our innermost desires within the comfort of a trusting relationship (a pursuit which, in its privacy, is impossible to measure the frequency of, but I imagine well predates porn) it packages sex into its most shallow, sellable form, providing a once intimate act, perhaps unique to the two people sharing it, with a vulgar and very public template.

Nope, wasn't aware of it.

But AntiPornMen has been a valuable resource in hashing out my opinions on the matter, in particular 'The Marketisation of Sexuality', an excellent recent article which I've in places simply paraphrased above.

Will give that thread a read, though, cheers.
