Hey everyone! My name's Carrie and I have been using this website as a great helping reference for a while now as a resource for myself and my Reilly, but only just signed up. My fiance and I are in the first stages of our K-1 visa application so that we can stop this horrible day-to-day life of not seeing each other due to a massive ocean that separates us.

We've received our NOA1 and are now going through a horrible waiting period where life seems to have stopped. I keep telling myself this'll be the worst bit, even though I understand the hard work hasn't even begun, at least when I get to America from England we'll have each other physically there to help one another through [as much as I am in debt to Skype!]

Anyway I just thought I'd say hello and also spread a big wide thank you to those I have silently sought advice from without you all knowing it! We're learning to get our heads around the procedures, just about. This is something neither of us ever thought we would be going through.

Hi Carrie. Welcome to VisaJourney. Hope it won't take very long for you to get your NOA2. Waiting is hard but as long as you constantly communicate with your other half it will be less difficult. Goodluck in your journey! :)

Thanks Angeli! Yeah we're taking every 2 minutes we have at the moment together. Been winding myself up a little tonight looking at what's to come - I'm confident on most things but the thing that's been worrying me is the financial proof. Neither of us are particularly well off but by no means work shy, and I'm just worrying about the minimums and what they're looking for in terms of assets and money. Just hoping this doesn't pop a spanner in the works for two people who just want to be together! Oh well, I dare say we aren't the first couple to worry about money!

I understand what you mean. In fact, my husband and I had to come up with a solution to this financial requirement. I'm glad my brother agreed to be our co-sponsor. I don't know much about the K-1's I-134 affidavit of support because I am a CR-1 filer and my husband and co-sponsor filled-up I-864 but I think you also have to do I-864 once you adjust status in the US. Each applicant is allowed two co-sponsors, aside from the petitioner although there should be qualifications to consider such as he should be a domicile in the US (a US citizen or a legal permanent resident), meets the 125% poverty guidelines established by the USCIS for the current year (you can find this guideline I-864P on the USCIS wesite forms) and willing to complete and sign the affidavit of support. I-864 is protected by law, I-134 isn't. But the K-1 applicant needs to present the I-134 on the interview together with the petitioner/co-sponsor's tax transcripts, W2s, pay stubs and employment letter. I hope you both can find a way through this, the earlier the better. I believe K-1 is supposed to be faster than immigrant visa processing so planning ahead is a huge help so that you can have a smoother journey. I wish you the best, Carrie. :)

I can't thank you enough, your advice and experience in this is invaluable to us. We've started getting together little things for the foreseeable parts of our journey to make it a little more smooth for us in the long run. So much to take in and it can be a little overwhelming sometimes with all the learning involved into all these little I-'s, DS's and K's!

Thank you again for your support :)

Hi Carrie!

I've been like you, silently stalking the boards for info but not really posting on anything.. I haven't run into any questions yet. But your post caught my eye because like you, my fiance is in the UK and I'm stuck here trying desperately to find skype time between both our busy schedules. :)

Just wanted to say hi and let you know I'm right there with you in the nervous and waiting stage. Good luck!

Wendie
