Not really - it's US$100 for the second bag with AA, so not much different to shipping it by FedEx or similar, I think.

Only sending clothes back, so we thought we might as well make use of the trip for that too We'll each do two cases when I finally make the move too.

The rest will be being boxed up and sent by FedEx, UPS, DHL, whoever offers the best door-to-door price by air (should be around 3-5 days door-to-door) just before I leave the UK finally. I'm not bringing anything big, no furniture etc, so it should be relatively inexpensive compared to a part-container load or something.

Good Morning and thanks for the update. I often wonder how to export and move whatever is coming from the beneficiary's country. I really have much admiration for those that only need a luggage or two and the rest stays back! You know, when I moved, I thought if I were the one going to another country, what would I do with all this stuff (furniture, china, heirlooms)? I know that Kadir will only be bringing his clothes (and my Turkish tea pot) lol. But great idea to have her bring it back on a 2nd luggage. Is that cheaper than if you had to ship everything over?

When I went to India in January, I brought two empty suitcases with me so that I could bring back a bunch of his stuff. Since my company has been flying me first class, my weight limit went to 75lbs per bag and I got 3 with no charge...lucky me! I also brought him two duffle bags so he could start packing what he is leaving at his mom's until we go back for vacation and can bring it with us. The good thing about marrying someone from a developing nation is that they don't have quuite as much "stuff" that has to come along

Just a thought, but everyone moving to America should think about getting several certified copies of your high school and/or college transcripts as well as letters of reference in English just in case you decide to work when you get here.

CIS received our I129F Dec. 1. Got letter a few days later. We are waiting. Meanwhile, my fiancee's mother (Taiwan) went crazy every time she sees any evidence of me. She has my fiancee's signature stamp and back account cards and basically keeps her prisoner economically and emotionally. We still text and call each other every day, even webcam, when she is at work or Internet cafe. Her life is torture except for all the dozens of friends who help emotionally and with advice ... and a place to stay during my upcoming visit in April. I have contacted my congressman's office to see what is going on with review. I find it hard to believe that some people get their approval notice within ONE month. Pray for us, please.

Well, im from a developing country myself and believe it or not, i will only bring 30% from my stuff with me because i cant rent a whole airplane (and that percentage is not because i am a antiquity collector ) So i think you are quite wrong about people from the developing countries Um beside, since when is India a developing country, they have gained their independence in 1947 from Britain, but their history dates back 3400 BC So i think they have developed quite enough during that time

At least I shouldn't have to worry about that - left high school nearly 23 years ago and never went to university.

Just had the doctor's surgery on the telephone - the basic details of my notes since time immemorial have already been transcribed into their computer, so they can furnish me with a print-out of those for £10 ($16). Photocopies of all the notes would be more, somewhere around £50 ($80), so I'll wait to see if I want to get them until after I've perused the transcribed notes

My experiences in India over the 7 weeks I've spent there taught me that Americans, me in particular, have an awful lot of stuff that we don't need.

India is still on the developing countries list because of it's less than ideal literacy rates, high levels of child labor, need for improved infrastructure (you should see the highways and power lines), issues with sanitation and waste management, etc. The United Nations ranks India as a medium on the Human Development Index. Many countries are still considered developing because the standards that exist in the major metropolitan areas often do not extend to the rest of the country. However, there are many stages of developing and just because the UN and I applied the term to India doesn't mean that it's not significantly more developed than other developing nations.

I should say, this is based on 155 days from NOA1 which translates to 5months and 5 days...those of us at VSC should be calculating against 180 days...6 months. But, for now, I'll keep it at 155. Once we start getting into 5 months and approvals start coming, I'll make a judgement call on whether or not to give "realistic" hope to those of us (VSC) still waiting for NOA2. So we don't get too worked up!!!

Depends on the country, I think - the UK records are good for 12 months at the London embassy.

Not sure about the Dublin embassy and Irish checks.

Those problems you refer to India are quite similar with my country, not all, but some are, so i know what you are talking about. We do however have washers and dishwashers and stuff like that, but there were times when things were like that here as well. Nothing to be ashamed of though, things dont make people who they really are, its their hearts, their culture, traditions. Sometimes we have to see how others live modest lives to understand that we are spoiled, and by looking at those modest lives maybe we will learn how to appreciate all the benefits we are given. Its easier to adjust from having less to having more, but its way harder the other way around :-)

As for luggage problems ... last time when i went to visit my fiance, they only allowed me one bag, and they made problems for one kilo that was over the limit, eh, some new regulations or something. Now i have to ask around how much one must pay for extra bags.
