It certainly does affect everyone in this country. I'm quite shocked that this is being said...no matter where one stands on illegal immigration.

sachinky said it affects her directly.

Yes, you are right...indefinate leave to remain.

I guess I was just remembering the nightmare my British mother had getting me through immigration at Gatwick after we went to Spain for a holiday when i was 7 ( which was ....erm....decades (yikes) ago).

They would not let me in. I was the only member of my family who was US born and had a US passport. They were going to send me back to the States...lol! My Mum went nuts ' I'm a UK citizen and she is my daughter' she said - and was promptly and snottily told ' You are a UK subject not citizen and she's American and her father is American therefore she needs a visa and doesn't have one....so she not getting in'. There was a cluster and someone from the US Embassy even turned up. Eventually after hours of whatnot..paperwork and I don't know what else they gave me a 6 month visa to get in...Then pointed my Mum in the right direction to apply for residency. The US Embassy would only help in the way that it was not affecting my US status...lol.

After all the paperwork and application I was granted residency, given a NIN and bimbled along....Until my entry to the States...OMG. I have a British accent and was told by the passport stamper guy ' You don't sound American, are you sure you are?' I said ' yes' and he went on to ask if I knew who my father was! i didn't help myself much by replying ' yes-do you?'.

Needless to say i was given that 'special' kind of treatment at immigration that day and learned the hard way to just answer questions and keep my mouth shut otherwise.

That's kind of a funny story now, but I bet it wasn't funny at the time!

Education is illegal in some parts of W. Virginia and you can get arrested for DWI. Driving While Intelligent, also known as "Thinking and Driving"

Open containers of books are not allowed in vehicles.

That's OK, Gary. I've been teased about my state for years on this forum - and from the likes of more intelligent individuals than you!

We can sit here and define what 'directly' means and argue the semantics of the whole statement, dissecting it to the nth degree...and I will maintain that illegal immigration affects us ALL directly. But ok, let's put that aside for a minute, and look at it from how you (presumably) meant it.

You don't know Sachinky. You only know what she wants you to know. How very presumptuous of you to assume you know more about her than she does to question what affects her directly.

*shrugs*

Perhaps.

But it doesn't bother me what you think.

Excellent. But it's ignorance like your statement which ruins good discussion. 'What's going on in your country doesn't affect you so why are you whining about it'.

*smh*

Conversely, by your own definition, if it doesn't affect her, it doesn't *technically* affect you either so does that mean you shouldn't have a viewpoint on the matter either?

Try to stick to actual legitimate viewpoints instead of throwing out nonsense.

shurg and shake my head at all of the ignorant comments that have been posted. Lisa C you are agruging with a tree stump, leave it along, but good try.

Gary, they always say DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER, you just confirmed my belief that you need to read what is written and then make judgement. Your comment about the un-educated people in WVA, blew your cover. BTW, WVA is bordered by 4 different states, so WVA has a wider range of education to drawn from.

I think Gary was speaking TIC...

FWIW, I corrected some of your grammar and spelling, as I can only assume you are one of the educated ones...

Since I am responding via cell phone my spelling maybe incorrect, so why don't you allow me to get home from church to respond to you as one of those educated ones. Garys comments are what has put us as Americans in the minds of others as being rude.

There seems to be a high degree of emotional outrage by a large number of members here over any legislation like the Dream Act, that would pave a legal avenue for some of the undocumented that are here.

We met a woman over the weekend who is here undocumented. She ran away from her husband because he was beating her. She's currently staying in a shelter with her two children and is meeting with an immigration lawyer to be able to stay here as her children are USC by birth.

OK, let's take emotions out of this...the woman is illegal. unless she's out of status??

She came here on a tourist visa. Her husband is a USC who was working abroad as an ESL teacher. While they were vacationing here in the states, she ran away from him.

COR does not apply as she is not in removal proceedings.

U Visa seems unlikely as that would be initiated by the Police.

VAWA I am assuming hubby is also here sans documentation.
