charles where does that dog live?...you need to report its owner for animal cruelty. they have a dog tied up w/ a tow chain & isolated from people. they raised that dog to be a weapon just like the dumbass alan discribed. of course its going to be aggressive its an animal.

ban the dogs? You are a damn ignorant person if you think that Pit Bulls themselves are any part of the problem.

Their strength is what makes them dangerous, but outside of that, that are not the most aggressive of breeds.

If raised in a loving way, they are actually one of the most loyal and docile dogs you can own.

I have to agree with the bolded.

We have an Amstaff ( American Staffordshire terrier). Look up the breed. She is considered a cousin of a pitbull, and our dog is mistaken on a daily basis for being a pitbull.

From the day we got her, we have brought up up to be a loving loyal dog, who gets so excited to see you, we have to ignore her till she calms down,...even then all she wants to do is lick you to death.

We often put our hand in her mouth when we are playing with her,..and she pushes it out, using her tongue,..and is probably thinking to herself, "what the hell you doing,..lol", why is this thing in my mouth,..it doesn't taste like a treat.

She does not know how to bite to save her own life.

We have had a pitbull walk past her, lunge at her, and bite her on the head, and she yelped, and backed away, again thinking "what the hell".

Our dog is the most playful loving dog . I HATE IT WHEN WE GO TO THE DOG PARK, AND PEOPLE HAVE ALL THESE PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS ABOUT HER AND HER BREED, WRONGFULLY ASSUMING SHE IS A PITBULL AND IS AGGRESSIVE.

She goings running around, and wants to play,..and all the stupid mutts, and ankle biter dogs just want to growl at her and bite her. She runs away.

It is ALL baout how you raise the animal. Our dog sits and waits at a door, she knows she is the last to leave,..she follows us up the stairs, she sits, lays down, high fives and kisses on command. We can move her food while she is eatting. She is not food aggressive, and is not territorial to any of us in the house. She does not know how to growl, we have never heard her growl at any other dog either.

She also walks beside us on walks, not in front of us.....WE ARE THE PACK LEADERS, not her.

She also loves to lay next to you on the couch, with her head on your lap,...she tries to put her paws on you too, and we always move those, as when a dog does that, they are trying to claim you. She knows we are boss.

It is ALL ABOUT EDUCATING YOURSELF. Some people do not deserve to be dog owners. They do not take the time to train the dog properly. Pitbulls and AMstaffs are head strong animals who love a challenge. We constantly challnge her with activities to make her think.

She gets walked daily, and sleeps on a couch in our bedroom at night time. She knows when bed time is, and we say "Time for bed". We tell her to go potty outside, then she follows us up the stairs. We then say "on your bed". She jumps up on the couch, and goes to sleep.

I really wish people were not so ignorant when it comes to dogs, and dog breeds.

I understand the people that have horrid experiences with dogs, and are reserved, that is a normal reaction to a traumatic experience. What I do not understand is why people are quick to judge on others experiences and not their own.

The worst thing you can do is display fear around an animal, they sense that, and see you as a threat,..believe it or not.

You don't take the point that no matter how your animal behaves with it's family - how it behaves with strangers will be different, especially in unexpected circumstances and especially when you are not there.

You seem to ignore the fact that these dogs are bred to fight and bred for aggression as part of their nature - admit that and address it.

They say that owners become like their dogs - you can disprove that by not handing out aggressive epithets like 'damn ignorant'

In all the attacks you googled (pit bull attack), the common theme is that the owners invariably say they don't understand it because their dog was so sweet and gentle

The woman who's gorilla ripped her face an arm off said the same thing

I am afraid that as the dog's 'mother', your opinion of it carries the same weight as a human mother who's son turns out to be a killer.

And our dog socialises daily, and behaves well around all others,..including kids even when they are pulling at her tail etc.

She goes to a dog beach most weekends in the summer too,..and once again,...we have never had an issue.

I was not saying you were ignorant per se just that you thinking the dog was the sole problem was perhaps ignorant....but you have only focussed on the negative with the breed....you have not researched the positive. If you had done so,..you would of realised, as a direct descendant of the pitbull, my dog is the total opposite to what the pitbull ' was supposedly" bred to do.

And yes Alan,..I have seen many a pitbull video on youtube that shows aggressiveness, I do not and did not ever dismiss that!....What I said was that the dog: like a child..to use the "mothering " title, is a result of its upbringing. It is a common fact of society that people, and animals alike,...follow and display the same characteristics as its role model. It does what it is TAUGHT to do.

And It is funny that, I was not the only one to call you ignorant, but you flame me...in fact i did not call you "damn anything" to be precise, just merely agreed with another ...

but then again..anytime a woman seems to challenge you,...you fight them down,..you have done this with me before....but because the original person who called you ignorant has a male name in the title , you do not challenge it.

Again,..I appreciate your point of view, but you need to look at both sides, not just the negative. There is good and bad in everyone and everything in this world. I am not saying " do not be cautious", just be better educated before making a one sided judgement. Yes...the facts are there, but do not dismiss the good as well because the negative overshadows it right now.

Have a look at your post and the bolding on the words you quoted.

Have a look - that is exactly what you said and I am quoting you word for word.

If that were true then a Yorkshire Terrier could be made to behave like a labrador... or a Labrador to dislike water or a sheepdog be disinterested in sheep or a cat not chase a mouse.

We all know there is no limit to a mother's love and no limit to the extent to which she can disbelieve bad of her offspring and now we have yet another example.

As I say, you are the last person in the world to give an objective view of this breed or what it is capable of because you are special to your dog and the other 300 million people and all the victims (and there are very many), are not. I am not talking hypothetical - these are actual terrible attacks that have happened and continue to happen

If you did own a pit bull and it did tear the face off a baby, would you fight tooth and nail to prevent it being destroyed because you would be sure it was an isolated circumstance and would never happen again ?

Or would you willingly agree to your dog being destroyed ?

I lived next to a pitbull owner long ago. Claimed the dog was to protect his wife/child while he worked. He allowed the dog to repeatedly butt the fence and it would keep getting into my yard ( and chase my cats ) I fixed that by leaving my side gate open and he got several tickets for the dog chasing people in the street ( he tried to say it was my fault because my gate was open ) I later bought an Old English Mastiff and when Thor got over 130 pounds the pitbull was no longer interested in getting into my yard. My cats were much happier as the Mastiff played tag with them.

Alan,..even though I am an advocate of the breed, if my dog did anything to hurt a child or anyone else, I would get rid of my dog. No questions asked. You seem to assume I condone the aggressiveness, I do not. But I will say again, we are products of what we are taught. I understand in an animal aggressiveness is an instinct, as a form of protection,..it is the same with humans. But, you can teach it otherwise.

Well, maybe it was my poor choice of bolding, for that I apologise. But it was not intended to make you think I thought you personally were damn ignorant.

I am still frustrated that while you are ready to doom the dog to hell, you have yet to look at its positives as well.

Believe me, I do not. I am the first to not believe my twin teenager daughters before believing them. Glad to know you would take action if the dog attacked someone. I did pose it as a question and did not say you wouldn't. I am careful about those things. Your apology was gracefully done and I thank you.

Actually I had forgotten how defensive dog owners can be of their dogs.

Perhaps the forum 'religion and politics ' should be renamed 'religion politics and dogs' as they are the 3 most contentious issues

My ex sister in law got a dog 12 years ago - a German Schnauzer - huge great lump (the dog)

Before that, she loved to travel and used to go to Cuba etc (she is a Brit and so she is free to go anywhere)and swim with the dolphins and have a great time. Since she got Ralph she has sacrificed her love of world travel and has never been anywhere. She takes Ralph for a walk and that's about it. He must be ready for off at 12 years old, so after 7 years mourning she might venture out again. My last girlfriend mourned her English Sheepdog for 7 years and referred to her constantly.

Where I live in central Washington it seems you need a pit bull or a big carry gun or preferably both. Most owners of pit bulls I have known have had worries about their own security and mix with a dodgy crowd

It would be nice to live in a world where we didn't need powerful and potentially (I put that word in specially for you) dangerous dogs, and big guns.

I am 200 lbs of lean muscle and I move like a leopard and I am not scared of anyone (except my 5ft 2" wife) and so I have never felt the need for either. I am scared of big dogs secretly - big black Police dogs. 'Alsatians' in England (German shepherds here).

I was in Paris with our agent once and he asked me if I wanted to 'eat Alsatian tonight"

It took me a few seconds of silence to realise that he was referring to the cuisine of Alsace and Lorraine

Pit Bulls are banned by law in England but the drug dealer underclass keep getting cross breeds which are nearer and nearer the line.

This is the act of parliament which banned them and saved many children's lives >>>
