I, for one, am thrilled about the repeal of DADT. It's about time America catches up to everyone else.

Why do so many homophobes think that "teh ghey" is somehow contagious? Or that by simply being gay you are somehow unable to control your sexual desires and actions? I really have to wonder about the deep down desires of those who rant against homosexuality so strongly. Think Ted Haggard.

I agree completely ... live and let live, the ones who are so, so opposed make me question their desires, too.

FWIW I am not inviting any heterosexual couples to share my shower or bedroom either. If I was going to invite someone to share my home I really wouldn't care if they were Gay or Lesbian. I am not Gay. It is not contagious. I do not concern myself with what other people do in their bedroom.

BBBBBut you do concern yourself with your bedroom?????

IN the military "their bedroom" is your bedroom.

For the record, I would be happy to share my bedroom and shower with a gay couple as much as with a straight couple. If they're friends of mine they're welcome guests in my house, and if they're not friends of mine they wouldn't be in my bed OR shower. That has nothing to do with being gay, or straight, it has to do with them as people.

Are you really this disconnected?

You compare your options of freedom to associate... with people who have no such options.

The US has the best military in the world. There are already Gays and Lesbians in the military. I would say that any Gay man or Lesbian woman that wants to serve already is. I cannot see that this policy change has any possibility of making any difference.

It is basically much ado about nothing and always has been.

If it is immaterial...why not continue DADT? The military never has needed homosexuals to function effectively. This is all about liberal social agenda and zero about military effectivness.

Sorry about the scraped knuckles but honestly the British went through this and it was a big ho hum. DADT is no longer needed.

not in all cases. only if you're referring to the barracks is that remotely correct - as a sizeable percentage live off base in either rental housing or they own the home. and regarding the barracks, it's every taxpayer's.

There is little privacy in the open bays, but even in Basic and AIT, most of us had two man rooms. No doors, but still, surprisingly some degree of privacy most of the time in the barracks. However, they did manage to catch three out of a company of about 170 recruits, taking care of their "personal needs", in the wee morning hours, including one speedy four special forces type, whose next stop would be Presidio of Montery DLI. They got branded with the appropriate nicknames. Other than being embarrassed during a company assembly, nothing more was said.

Wait, is this you trying to position straight male military members as the oppressed faction here? Do you get sore from twisting things so profoundly? The service members themselves don't give a sh*t. Congress granted this repeal like butter. The majority of the country is over it. And here you still are recommending the dark ages as the only possible way forward.

Don't you think it would be cathartic to just admit you cannot stand the idea of gay sex? And that you hate gay people with the irrational heat of a thousand flaming rainbow hued suns?

FFS. You have LOST this one. All your beloved wars will go on without a hitch, and once again you'll be on the wrong side of history with regard to civil rights and progress. If you had the capacity to be ashamed of your own ignorance and hate, now would be the time to do some slinking off, licking of wounds (no **!), and refueling for the next time you need to protest a marginalized group wanting to be recognized as equal.

Honestly, I feel faint when you remind me of the hate we have in this country. Do you recommend leeches as a cure?

There's no 'gay test' in the military, there are loads of gays already serving. I doubt a gay man in an otherwise hetero 'seeming' unit would be putting on pink camo and singing 'it's raining men' now. It's going to be just as hush hush as it always has been, imo.
