When did Christianity stop being evil?

I dont have any expertise in this subject but here is something to think about.

I think in some states at least, if a robber was to shoot a pregnant woman and her baby died.

the state could charge him with murder and then execute him for the crime.

and in that same state the woman could decide to have an abortion (kill the fetus) with no penalty

Im guessing there is a state where that is true.

Also to muddy the waters.

If there is a guy standing on a corner shooting people indiscriminately

and somebody shoots him and kills him. that person would probably get a medal.

If somebody believes that killing the fetus is equivilent to murder it seems to me that killing the doctor would be morally equivilent to shooting the guy on the corner.

Does the fact that congress passed a particular law make it right

Of course there have to be laws, and if they are broken there have to consequences

but if someone believes there is a higher authority that says killing the fetus is murder

would he not have a moral obligation to take action in spite of the consequences?

Previously congress has passed laws that run away slaves must be returned to their masters

Did that make it morally right?

Be careful Dan, it sounds like you might be acknowledging that there may be shades of gray, that not everything is black and white, maybe not even most things. You know, nuance is a tricky thing. Our former president didn't like it and apparently neither do the tea-party radicals now.

Life is definately NOT black an white.

But if you live your life in belief system where the rules are Black and White ie "thou shall not kill" (Why is that so low on the list at number 6 by the way), it really must be a major struggle to resolve internal moral and social conflicts. Then again there has been plenty of time to come up with excuses and work rounds.

Laws are passed that are appropriate for the morals and needs of the time (mind you the legal system moves at a snails pace). As society evolves, morality changes, new laws are passed, old laws are repeeled or fall out of use. In reality old laws that no longer apply should be removed and the legal system needs to be reformed to keep up with change. Admittedly this is a simplified nand idealistic view, but its not to far from being accurate.

Now religion on the other hand is static. Unbending, out of date without the morality and thinking of this time.It has to be or it just wouldnt work.It is fun to watch people do mental gymnastics to make it fit.
