Your question was moved to the proper forum...I believe that was done so that people who have undergone a similar situation as yourself can stumble upon your question and answer you promptly.

Your petitioner (in this case, your brother) is not required to attend the interview (seriously, you should fire your lawyer for suggesting an expensive option); I believe one of the other members told you that in some cases, it would benefit the applicants for the petitioner to be present at the Embassy if the interview is for their fiance(e), spouse or child, especially in high fraud countries. Parents and brothers/sisters of US citizens attend the interview by themselves (unless the sibling is a minor...even then the petitioner is still not required to attend, the sibling just needs to appear with an authorized legal guardian).

It would be of great help to you to review your petition so in case you are asked questions about your brother or what information was written on the forms, you will be able to answer them with confidence.

I posted the below question some few hours ago and it was moved out of the forum cos someone believes they know all without asking questions. The summary is, my brother filed for me back in April 2001 and the petition was approved in March 2009 and sent to NVC. Visa became available in August 2010 and i called NVC to Adjust status and petition sent back to USCIS. Now could someone with an answer please help on the below question.

Thanks.

Hello Every one. Hope Y'all had a wonderful Xmas and New Yr. I have a quick question from any experienced member. My Brother filed for me and i have an interview for month end and was wondering if he has to be there with me as the petitioner cos the letter for interview did not state he has to be there but my lawyer says he has to. Pls advise cos i don't want him wasting his money to fly down from Arizona where he works if he does not have to be there.

Thanks.

5 threads on this same subject started at various different times and in different forums have all been merged together in the correct forum - the AOS forum - although it could be placed in either the Family visa (due to the grandfathering petition) or AOS from student, work or visitor visa as the OP entered originally on a tourist visa. As the OP is already in the US, posting in either of the"Bringing Family Members to the US' forums is not appropriate Thread title also edited to show it is a combined thread. Duplicate posts and administrative posts have also been removed.

Please do not start a new thread to ask this or similar questions again, but continue the conversation in this thread that contains the background information so as to get the most accurate advice.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
