PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP: BIRTH CERTIFICATE

I received an RFE telling us to submit the applicant's birth certificate issued by the appropriate civil authority. I submitted a photocopy of birth certificate from High Court in Nigeria which I obtained in 2007. I just called my people in Nigeria to get me a birth cerificate from my local government.The problem is that I was born at Ilorin in KWARA STATE but my state of origin is RIVER STATE. Due to my family has moved to my state(PORTHACOURT)and I do not have any body in ILORIN,KWARA STATE again that will help me for my birth certificate there, then I now ask my family to get it from my local government in PORTHACOURT, RIVER STATE Nigeria. Will they accept the birth certficate from my local government since I was not born in my state? Please I need your help I do not want my I-485 application to be denied based on this issue.

Better to be safe than sorry. I am not sure if you can obtain it from 'state of residence'. But if in your application, you filled Kwara State as your place of birth, i would advise that you go to the National Population Office in Illorin to obtain the Birth Certificate. The wait time is usually less than 2hours. If you are collecting it from PH, make us it is stated there that you were born in Kwara State(that is if this is what you filled in your visa application). Just my personal opinion. Good luck

Birth Certificate can be obtained in the Local Govt or National Population Commission but it depends on the time you were born , If you were born within 1970 to 1980, request it from the local Government of your Birth or from the where your Mother orignated from, Some can be born in Kwara State and bring the Child to be registered in River State
