Working after Green Card Interview...

Timeline

Hi All,

I have an AOS interview January 11th, and at this point do not yet have EAD. I am thinking that at this point I likely will get my Green car before they have a chance to process the EAD. Can I start working immediately after the AOS interview or do I have to wait to receive the green card in mail 1st?

I'd say you gotta wait at least until you get your card (or they stamp your passport). additionally, who is the employer who would hire you and make you work right away just because you told him that you're eligible? unless they stamp your passport, you will have no other evidence that you passed and became an LPR. also, before you start working they make you fill in a bunch of forms that require evidence of eligibility to work: the list says EAD, green card, passport stamp. if you dont have any of them, you cant work.

I don't have the time to find and cite the reference at the moment, but the employee/employer has 90 days (or was it 30?) to come up with the evidence that you are legally entitled to work. I'd say that gives you enough leeway. They can always make the job conditional on you proving you're allowed to work. I'd go for it.
