I know someone who is married and met their husband on the internet before internet dating had really "started" they have been married for a very long time now. Internet has really nothing to do about it tho its about you and your SO and your communication and keeping the marriage alive. Just like any other marriage.

I agree. I feel like it would be like any other marriage. I posted this poll mainly to prove myself right I can imagine the outcome of this post. Any marriage to me can be successful depending on the couple and how much they work at the marriage. Personally I'm not married but I have been dating my gf online for 8 months now. we haven't met yet but I already feel as if I met the right person for me.

However, I see a handful of people try to talk it down when they don't have any experience with it. Saying internet doesn't work and it's not real. Then to me apparently they haven't looked into it and seen the success that is out there. I know if my gf and I work at it and want it bad enough it will be successful.

Please keep replying and voting I want to see how right I am. :)

Thanks

The way I explained it to people was... You can met at a starbucks, eharmony, through friends or the internet, it is all the same in the end. you date, you get engaged and you marry.

My mom knew my dad for one year then they got married , my dad was aggressive alcoholic and turned out to be my moms worst nightmare. they stayed together for 14 years. My mom got divorced then got married to a guy she had known for 12 years, 5 years later they divorced due to martial problems and communication issues.

The point is being in love is half the battle and No matter whether you have known someone a day or ten years Divorce happens and sometimes you do not known what you got till your already deep in it.

Marriage takes time, effort, and communication.. lots of love and patience but most of all the ability to say this is my life and this is what i choose ...Anyone who can judge and not understand how one can fall in love with someone through the internet needs to explore the world.

I had internet dates with my husband nightly, we watched movies together, laughed at comedians on youtube, chatted constantly. played world of warcraft till I thought my thumbs where going to fall off. He courted me like no one else ever had. Love is everywhere and you never know when it is going to pop up. :)

hehehe it will be 7 years for us in June (ok so 6 1/2 years now  ) but yeah, it is hard to believe. And Marilyn - 3 1/2 years for us to make 10 too. Incredible. I don't know where the time has gone but it sure went fast.

While we met on line we met through a mutual interest group and neither of us were looking. We just sort of started talking and before either of us knew it was happening, we had fallen in love.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I was married and divorced from someone I met IRL before I met my current husband. My current husband and I knew more about each other in a month than my ex and I did in 9 years. Of course my ex had no emotion and no soul, but that's a different story. ;)

We got to know each other by writing before we got married, we shared everything. We still do. I couldn't ask for more. It's been 2 years now.

It's funny, we still chat via IM, when we are in the same room. We just got used to it. :D

I kind of feel like a long distance relationship is better to build on at times because of like you said you learn more about each other within a month than a couple of 9 years. With a local relationship you have physical but when you date someone online all you have is time to talk and get to know each other. I think the hardest part is actually getting to the person. I know I can hold out til then but I also know right now I don't have a full time that doesn't make things easy on us considering the path my gf and I are taking.
