Hello Everyone,

I haven't posted in here at all, but I have looked at everyone else's posted which were very helpful. So, I would like to thank all of you for sharing your experiences. I would like to return the favor by posting my husband's Montreal interview experience.

Recap: We started out process back in January or February. Electronic filing of the documents is such a blessing. It made the process very easy and quick. The kicker for us was that between our package being finished and sent to the consulate in Montreal (which was in June) to recieving the interview letter (which was on 11/16/10)was such a long time in between. We weren't anticipating for it to be that long. My husband quit his job in August and essentially "moved" to California for 4 mos. It was a long and difficult wait. But, he came to help me out with all the changes that was going through job and residence wise here. We also found out that we are expecting our 1st baby (my 3rd child - 2 from previous marriage). so it helped a lot that he was here. We knew he was allowed to stay here for 6 months, so we were counting on him to get the interview before that. I was growing really impatient and worried (one income is not a good thing). But for those of you waiting, try to be patient, the time will come.

Journey to the interview:

He left Los Angeles for Toronto (where he is originally from) on 12/05/10. BTW, before the flight we got the letter through email stating what he needed. He called the office in Toronto (I can't remember the name, but there is a link in the email taking you to the surgeons that do immigration medical exams) to make an appointment for his medical exam. His interview was scheduled for 12/09/10 in Montreal. He scheduled his interview for 12/6/10. Before the interview he had to make sure he had certain vaccinations (MMR and adenasol - not sure if I spelled that correctly). He wasn't sure about the MMR and was hoping they won't really care. After all Canada has the same vaccination requirements as the US. He just couldn't find his records. He arrived at his medical appointment at 6:30 am. He said there were different stations he had to check in at to review his records, etc. The doctor did his physical, but he still needed to get is MMR booster. He had until noon the next day to fax them the signed sheet of paper they provided for him. He went to the walk in clinic he normally went to when he was living there and they administered the vaccination for him. They also wanted to make sure he got his 2nd shot of tetanus, so he had to give him that date (they didn't seem overly concerned about that, they just needed a date). He picked up his medical exam report and x-ray on 12/8/10 around noon and drove to Montreal. He stayed at the Hyatt (it cost more than the other ones everyone seems to recommend - Hotel La Tour - I wanted to make sure he was stayingin a clean room and I know at least that the Hyatt is that), he said there was some short cut behind the hotel that made his walk there shorter. His appointment was not until 9am and he wasn't planning on getting there until around 8ish. But, after reading the reviews here, I suggested to him to get there when the door opens at 7:30am (I didn't want him to stand out in the cold unnecessarily). He listened to me and did just that. He went in at 7:30am and I got a text from him at around 9am that he was approved and on his was back to the hotel. He said he had to go to windows to show his documentations. We were hoping for him to get his visa the same day or the day after, so we got a letter from my doctor stating that I had to get a procedure done (amniocenthesis)and that he needs to be there. The lady at the window saw this letter and suggested to him to let the person interviewing him this. He said the interview was pretty short because the gentleman interviewing him said ours was a simple case. He asked him a couple of questions about how we met? Asked my husband if he's working, which my husband proceeded to tell him that he hasn't since Aug. and that he has been in California since then helping me (the interviewer was kind of surprised that he bothered coming back for his interview - I guess the amount of time he has been here we could have just done a AOS). My husband explained the situation about me being pregnant and wanting to be there at my next doctor's appointment. They told him to come back the next day after 3pm to pick up his visa. That's the end of the interview process. He's lucky enough to have relatives living in Montreal that he didn't have to pay for another night in a hotel. He picked up his visa the next day and headed back to Toronto. He's packing up the rest of his stuff and will be crossing the border to Detriot to visit his sister and niece before he heads back here. I can't wait to see him!

I hope this post helped someone because you all have been so helpful. Thanks again. Happy Holidays!!!

BTW, I didn't apply for a K3 visa, we applied for the CR1 visa. I don't know why that's posted there.

Also, for those of you wondering what to wear to the interview, my husband wore a pair of jeans and sweater. It was snowing heavily and cold. I wasn't about to have him wear his dress pants and nice shoes and walk in the snow. He was a little worried, but I told him that as long as he doesn't look sloppy, it won't matter. He walks around like he came out of a GQ magazine anyways. Just a heads up because we were trying to find posts that kind of provided us some info on what to wear. There wasn't much to be found.

Congratulations on your approval and the baby!

Very thorough review. Not sure why the officer was surprised that your husband returned for his interview though; since you were already married when he returned to the US to help you out, AOS would not have been an option. Great that they had the visa for him to pick up the next day.
